Im running through building a gold 6263 vintage Daytona (in my mind) and was wondering how feasible gold plating rep cases, pusher and bezels would be? To me it’s doesn’t seem like a very big issue, am I missing something? I assume there are places you can send watches, parts and jewellery to be gold plated, I can imagine it would be hugely expensive... thoughts?

Thanks for summoning me!
Well, gold is a REALLY soft metal. It’s much easier to scratch than steel, and platings are usually in the micron order.
I call it durable when at least 10 micron are there.

Its worst enemy will be your sweat, like any other acid compound. So brush it gently with warm water every time you use it, especially in the summer when sweating is at its best. Keeping it clean is the key to have it stand!

Replating with actual gold is doable, anyway, in the event the original one fades or you don’t like the stock “gold” color hue your rep has.

i've seen prices $600-1000 depending on the thickness and type of gold for plating watches
