Faux screw spring bars

Curious as to what you're using. I bought some recently on the bay and while they do the job of holding the strap to the head perfectly well, both ends appear a little sunken in the lug holes.

Are there screw spring bars out there that fit and look better than the rest of the bunch?

I have some on the way from panatime, curiosity got the best of me. I'll let you know how they work out in a few days.

They're likely gonna be the same as I bought mine from Panatime previously too. It will be a little sunken, I know exactly what you mean.

i went back to the original screw bars because of that.

Unfortunately my lug thread is stripped so I've got to use a spring bar. I never gave it much thought before but I guess the actual lug thickness will have a bearing on the end result and whether the spring bar appears flush or sunken.

Hey Luke,

Drop Offshore (Allan) at Watchbitz an email, he's got them and he's just on the gold coast so its fast and cheap for us down here ?

http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=299

Make sure you let him know what size case set its for, but I dont think he has 47mm case ones anyway.

They'll probably end up being just like your current set, but worth a go.

He doesnt respond to PM's much so email him at [email protected]

Thanks for the heads up braith. I'll definitely do that next time instead of waiting 3 weeks for them to come from the US :D

Got a few pairs in from Panatime today and I must say i was pretty impressed. The fit and size is pretty good, in my opinion, but for me the real win is installation. I just used my finger to push down the screw side and slide it into the lug - awesome! I originally sourced them for a repair / revive of a 111 that had a stripped and cross threaded screw, but I am really thinking I might use them on my personal PAM 111. A few snaps to fuel the discussion:

That looks about right. It was like that on mine as well.

I guess if the screw threads are unusable, I'd go with this option.

It still looks pretty alright.

Yeah, it's a good solution but visually could be better. I guess they've had to go with a lowest common denominator approach to maximise the number of watches they'll fit.

Sure beats getting out the Loctite for every strap change.

Yep, you're right. I was happy to get them anyway, just in case any of the screw bars/threads don't work anymore.

They're a good backup to have.

Or worse, scratching the crap out of your lug because you have to exert so much force to fight through the chewed threads that you kep slipping off the screw

Good point too. I never did like screw bars.

That 111 looks like a real beauty. ;)

It sure is! :)

Again I really like the spring bars as it makes strap changing less stressful from a scratch, will it unscrew, will it screw back in, will my screw get damaged perspective. I think any visual difference is worth it for the convenience.

I use a cheap LED magnifyer desk lamp when I'm changing straps. It works a treat and cuts down on lug scratches :D
