Hi, Gang!

Just a quick review of an inexpensive Omega GMT ($32) I purchased from popkind.com recently to gage a watch I'd like to buy later on. It's an Omega GMT with blue bezel and orange/red numerals and markings. I know there's a name for this model which I can not think of right now. Popkind.com is affiliated with Price Angels and has all the characteristics you'd normally find at PA -- decent quality, low prices, f a s t shipping, reliability, excellent customer service, worthy product return, etc. Between the time I placed my order to the time the Omega was delivery was approximately 10-12 days. As you'll see -- esp. for those of you who purchased a watch from PA, it arrived in its signature round, gray tin can. As you'll see in the pics, the watch was of decent quality for the price (no surprise here) and actually pretty nifty. Here are some pics:

THE OMEGA GMT WATCH:

NOTES: The watch case measures 48mm wide (w/ crown) 15mm thick, and weighs in at 89.6 g. The pearl is misplaced too far down the triangle, the pressure relief valve at 10 is slightly crooked, and the GMT hand does not work. The diver's clasp on the rubber bracelet was very tight and broke in my hands while trying to open it -- not too impressive, even by cheapie standards. Also note: I tried to gerryrig the end of the strap & converted into a traditional buckle and tongue clasp, but I COULD NOT reinstall the straps on the case. I kid not when I say I sat for over 2.5 hours just trying to get the one strap on & even my family jeweler could not reinstall it, so I ordered a blue/black rubber strap from Panatime, which did the trick. I admit to becoming frustrated and putting the watch down on the table rather forcefully (stupid move) & for a while the watch would not run. However, after giving the case a number of "palm slaps" I learned from Katt, I got it running and have worn it for two days. The watch keeps decent time. Live and learn.

Lastly, keeping consistent with its "inexpensive" heritage, the Omega says "Seamaster" on the dial but says "Speedmaster" on the case back -- but, who's going to look? This is right up there with the Omega PO special from Silix that has "Seamastei" inscribed on the clasp. Who's going to look or know? (besides the purists amongst us). The lume, by the way, is pretty good on this watch, with two different colors for the hands and hour markers. No lume pic because I stink at them.

I learned the art of purchasing a cheapie of a desired watch before laying down $$$ for a better one. Nothing wrong with that, group.
Hope this brief review was informative. Thanks, always, for the ideas you always give to your fellow Forum mates.
