Hi guys ...
A French member PMed asking questions about the different grades of ETA 2824-2 so I've created a specific thread in the French sub-forum.
As I think those informations could be of interest for all RWI members, I've decided to translate my thread in English and post it here.
Please forgive my broken English and feel free to chime if you notice anything innacurate ...

The 2824-2 is available in 4 different grades :
Standard, Elabore, Top and Chronometer
The degree of finish and decoration on the movement's parts, generally only an aesthetic improvement, increases as well with the grade ...
But here I'll focus on the technical specifications ...

STANDARD
Mainspring = NIVAFLEX
Collet = NIVATRONIC
Balance wheel = Nickel gilt
Hairspring = NIVAROX 2
Balance Staff = Epilame coated
Hairspring heat treatment = Etasable
Shock protection system = ETACHOC
Pallet Stones = Polyrubies, Epilame-coated
Adjusted in 2 positions with an average rate of +/−12 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/−30 seconds

ELABORE
Mainspring = NIVAFLEX
Collet = NIVATRONIC
Balance wheel = Nickel gilt
Hairspring = NIVAROX 2
Balance Staff = Epilame coated
Hairspring heat treatment = Etasable
Shock protection system = ETACHOC
Pallet Stones = Polyrubies, Epilame-coated
Adjusted in 3 positions with an average rate of +/−7 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/−20 seconds

TOP
Mainspring = NIVAFLEX NM
Collet = NIVATRONIC
Balance wheel = Glucydur gilt (antimagnetic alloy)
Hairspring = ANACHRON 2 (antimagnetic and stainless alloy)
Balance Staff = Epilame coated
Hairspring heat treatment = Etasable
Shock protection system = INCABLOC
Pallet Stones = Red rubies, Epilame-coated
Adjusted in 5 positions with an average rate of +/−4 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/−15 seconds

CHRONOMETER (COSC)
Mainspring = NIVAFLEX NM
Collet = NIVATRONIC
Balance wheel = Glucydur gilt (antimagnetic alloy)
Hairspring = ANACHRON 2 (antimagnetic and stainless alloy)
Balance Staff = Epilame coated
Hairspring heat treatment = Etasable
Shock protection system = INCABLOC
Pallet Stones = Red rubies, Epilame-coated
Adjusted within the standards prescribed by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel des Chronomètres Suisses) which is of −4 to +6 seconds/day, with a maximum daily variation of +/−10 seconds
Chronometer grade movements are serial numbered (engraved on the mainplate opposite to the stem if I'm true) as that is a requirement of the certification authority.

For your information ...

If you're ever offered to buy a TOP or COSC 2824-2 showing an ETACHOC ... it's just a scam

Pic of a Breitling branded 2824-2 on which one can clearly see the INCABLOC shock protection system and the COSC serial number

Awesome post! Thank you for a great read, very helpful and interesting. A side story: I have a few ETA 2824 ebauche movements, a relic of a watchmaking course my uncle completed in Geneva during the late 70's. They will likely never be fully assembled, and are in different stages of completion - Cotes de Geneve, anglage, perlage... all the stages of watch making and finishing are represented in his partial builds. The humble ETA 2824 is such a monumental achievement in quality for the masses, and the reason I am in the hobby to start with.

Alas they are locked in my safe back in my home country, especially difficult to reach in these trying times :D. But I will make sure I update the post when the time comes, so to speak.

Manodeoro thank you for such detailed comparison. Do you know if Sellita SW200-1 also have these 4 different grades of equivalent?

What about information regarding the mainspring, hairspring, collect and such used for the different grades of Sellita SW200-1 movements?
