The date Cyclops on the sandwich crystal for my pam186 “oiled†up on me. Not one full day of wearing the watch mostly indoors, plus one car drive to work and back for a total of 45 minutes or so and BAM, I notice the defect. I’m still not sure how it happened, but nonetheless it’s there and it’s unacceptable for me especially on a brand new watch. The glue seems to have melted, perhaps.

A good thread on a similar issue: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...si-72488?t=72488&highlight=chieftang's+cyclop

I wanted to weigh my options on fixing this issue.

#1: I spend ~$40 (with tracking) to have it sent back to the td I bought it from and wait for it to get fixed then sent back
#2: I buy an upgraded sapphire from dsn for ~$80 to my door including all fees
#3: I spend ~$15 and buy an Esslinger watch crystal and glue a Cyclops to it using the old crystal to help align everything. They only have 6.5mm and not a 7mm for an exact replacement. I’m going to uv glue it to the underside of a one piece crystal. http://www.esslinger.com/2-50-mm-thick-round-magnifier-mineral-glass-watch-crystal.aspx?variation=46116

#4: I try and separate the sandwich crystal (I’ve already tried everything possible in my capacity) by using very harsh solvents and a sonicating bath then glue it back together with uv glue.

I think I’m leaning towards option #3 but I’m not sure how the magnification will look since the Cyclops will not be recessed in the crystal.

Anyone have any experience with this or opinions?

If I am reading the other thread correctly, if you were to do #3, your crystal would be... either.

1. too thin, and when pressed into your case, will sit low and the cyclops might sit too low and block the hands. especially since the cyclops is on the inside.
2. if you don't seat the crystal at the proper position, your watch would have minimal water resistance because you're essentially not utilizing the gasket.

I personally would rather go route 1 or 2.

the crystals would be exactly the same size: 32.5mm x 2.5mm (edge) 3.5mm (from top of dome). it's true that gluing the cyclops underneath may cause the hands to rub, but i'm assuming 1mm is enough clearance for them. i should check.

i'll still using the i gasket to press the crystal in. it's not damaged. Now, the bezel gasket, on the other hand...that is fubr'ed and spins freely.

thanks for your opinion.

Oh okay, then yes, the rubbing of hands would be a big no-no. I would definitely do more research on how much clearance you have to play with. It would really suck to take it apart and find out that you miscalculated.

IMO, I don't think the cyclops on the inside would clear the hands. I could be wrong, but your watch isnt a breitling SA, after all.

definitely no room for a glued on cyclops underneath. it would hit the hands.

anyone ever buy jackson's MM141 glass with cyclops? http://www.jacksontse.com/mm141.html i'm wondering if it is the same 32.5mm x 2.5mm (edge) size? he tells me he cannot (will not) measure but *thinks* it is the same.

only other option is dsn...unless i make this watch a "fantasy" cyclops-less watch.

This is the perfect opportunity for you to make a far more handsome watch: get that crystal and leave the cyclops off! Yes, it won't be like the genuine article--but it will be aesthetically better for it! My only regret with my new 243 is that @!@#$%^& cyclops. Shouldn't be there. Period!

OMG, I realize this was my 1,000 post! Do I get a free watch?
