So I thought I'd really the story of this recent experience I had with eBay as it may help some if they sell there and run into trouble. It all started 6 weeks ago when I sold a watch that was also listed on this forum here http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/241416-Offshore-Limited-Force-4-OFF004B-Chrono
I thought it was a little strange as the buyer was a woman in her 60's and this piece is totally inappropriate for her, anyway, each to their own. Everything was fine until 27 days later, thats right TWENTY SEVEN, when she submitted a return request claiming there was heavy wear to the underside of the strap and I had desribed it as new (used same photos here as on eBay so take a look and decide for yourself). I knew this was impossible as I'd only ever worn the watch twice and it was sitting in the box for years. I responded that I'd refuse the refund on the basis the description stated pre owned and she'd had it too long. Also attached the photos I took pre shipping to prove the point.
we exchanged further messages for two weeks and that went nowhere. In the meantime I was constantly talking to eBay and getting advice on how to handle the situation and every advisor I spoke with was on my side so I felt pretty secure about holding onto the funds.
eventually I had enough of the stalemate and escalated to eBay myself to make a decision thinking I'm in a strong position. Within hours I got a message stating they had awarded a refund to the buyer and asked them to return the watch. Obviously I was livid and called them straight away. Spent an hour on the phone screaming at their customer service people and eventually got through to the appeals department which is when I finally spoke to someone with some sense. He sided with me and said he would close the case immediately, remove any negative feedback, and I would keep the funds. This was a great result, but five minutes later I recieved a confirmation telling me the same thing but also that eBay would be refunding the buyer themselves.
I shouldn't complain about it really but I felt pissed that the asshat buyer got their money back AND got to keep the watch too.......until today.
Today I got a message from the buyer with a tracking number. She is shipping the watch back. I can only assume she got the refund and thought it was from me so she's sending it back. Whatever the case, the main lesson to learn here is that ebay policy is policy so ridiculous that no matter what you do with accurate descriptions, quality pictures, and communication eBay will almost always side with the buyer and even if you do get to keep your money there is a good chance the buyer will get theirs too.
Getting the watch back is an unexpected bonus but the best part of all is that eBay have had to shell out themselves because their returns policy sand procedure is so stupid.
If anyone runs into this issue with a return and is confident they have a good description and photos then don't mess around trying to resolve with messages. Escalate at the earliest opportunity. Demand to speak to the appeals team before the item is returned. Receiving it back is the worst thing to do!!

Spot on Joe, Good for you! Ebay is a load of crap. They could give a rats ass about the seller in 99.9% of ALL cases.

So I got the watch back today and just as I thought there is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. Thinking I might send some pictures to eBay to show them how they screwed themselves out of 300 bucks, lol!!

I am so sick of dealing with Ebay AND Paypal. Bunch of f*****g crooks. I hope they all rot in hell for poor business practices. They will side with the buyer every time and snatch money from your account to refund the "victim". I have been burned a couple of times, but have learned my lesson. I will NEVER EVER give either one of these companies another cent. The fees to receive money and to list an item and the final value fees are freaking highway robbery. Good riddance scumbags.

During my college days I was a bit tech savvy and was the first person in my area who jumped on eBay and I started managing eBay accounts for several local businesses from pawn shops to car lots. That was back when you had to have your own FTP with hosting for pics and if you wanted to get sales you used quite a bit of HTML. Through the years I always have done eBay work on the side for folks until the last few years. At one time a pawn shop chain I ran eBay for was rated as a top seller in the country and we received all kinds of breaks and bonuses. BUT...and there's always a but...after several years of constant cost increases via eBay and their sister company PAYPAL the profit margins dwindled. Also, after NUMEROUS refunds given by eBay when they were not IN ANY WAY warranted, we used eBay less and less. I remember one case where a bidder from Guatamala won a $300 camera auction...he paid immediately via PP so I reluctantly went ahead and shipped. Amazingly he was able to bid and pay even though our auctions clearly stated in eBay's format, and our own description, that we did not ship outside the USA (this was due to the MULTIPLE TIMES we had been screwed out of money from "lost" packages.) Even though this buyer had only 2 feedbacks we could not win the case with eBay, after OF COURSE the packaged "never arrived." Even though we were award winning sellers with nearly 100k feedback at 99.9% positive, eBay wouldn't consider that the international buyer was lying. Even though the package followed a very normal path for tracking (although you couldnt track after it entered his country). It's pathetic. We were repeatedly screwed out of money. Once a guy had a fly fishing rod for nearly 3 months and got a full refund from eBay (from us) without providing them any return shipping info...he never returned the item...and that was the turning point when eBay decided that sellers could no longer leave negative feedback for buyers.

Long story but I just RAGE on how crappy and greedy eBay has become. I buy there time to time but I will not sell on eBay.

Yeah, unfortunately eBay has changed for the worst over the years. Hardly buy anything there any more as its mostly overpriced due to high fees sellers have to pay. I actually just sold tge watch again yesterday but this time I changed the description and provided specific pictures of the strap so that doesn't get questioned again. As usual I'll make a tagged video before I ship so buyer can't claim it wasn't working. It's a lot of effort but a means to an end and from my perspective I don't trust any buyer so I take as many precautions as possible.

I just buy on Egay now. Used to sell but that was when it was fair game for everyone. Even when I get the bum rap on a purchase I have never done an Egay claim. At worst a neutral or no feedback.

A buyer bought from me a customized crocodile watch strap on Ebay. It tooks me a week to arrange orders and get his done. After many photos and his confirmation it is what he ordered, i ship to him.

Once that buyer get it and wear twice, he decide to open a return request on day 25th that hurt my account standing. The reason is he said it is not his taste.

Ebay do the most stupid thing. They accept the return and make me fully refund the buyer. It's nonsense when buyer place a custom strap and change his mind. Even when he wear it twice and i can not resell it as new.

As a business, i accept risks.

That's it.

Thanks for reading so far.

eBay DIDN'T completely screw a seller over?! That's new

They usually ban you for making a fuss, keep your money, and item, freeze your PayPal, and sacrifice your first born

Ebay Pitch record every case opened by buyers and limit your account instantly. Even it is not your fault.

Exact same thing here. I sold a Hamilton watch on eBay years ago and the buyer fradulently claimed they received an empty box. PayPal account immediately frozen, eBay seller account limited, and it took over 6 months to get the funds released, despite the buyer having the watch the whole time. I've never sold an item again, even though I'm constantly getting spam messages from them offering me discounts if I list items for sale.

I'm still holding out hope that Google or Apple will take their payment systems into the online sphere and replace PayPal.
