Earth's Rotation is Slowing
Hi guys !
I was in one of those science moods tonight and it got me thinkin.
Its comon (i think) knowledge that the Earth's rotation is slowing down.
They (the smart guys) say that in the next 150 million years we will have a day that lasts 25 hours.
But in 150 million years, the way evolution has been in the past, there will be a new species dominating the planet, providing history repeats its self.
But what really got me thinking was they say in the next 20000 years, there will be one extra second in each hour, which would surely impact humans to some degree, we should still be here in that time id think.
So what do you think they are gonna do about that?
Do you think they will revise the clocks to show 61 seconds?
Do you think they will actually lengthen the second to adjust for this?
Do you think they will leave all as it is and give us like a leap hour ever so often or somthing to that effect?
The interesting thing about lengthening the seconds, while it seems like it would be the easiest way to deal with this is that would alter all our standards for frequencys and rates. Think hertz and even motor oil is measured by the time it takes to flow through a certain sized hole.
Im interested in your guy's thoughts
