back in around 2008 or 2009 or so, i bought an extra 6263 case from DW which I ordered as a v72 case but after inspection it showed that it was a mystery movement case.
i wrote DW and asked for a exchange but never heard back and later he disappeared...

so i had this extra DW 6263 case lying in my drawer since then and now modding a Cartel 6263 i stumbled over it again and thought i could try to complete it. So thats what i did :) well almost, some minor things to tweak as always.
I had a spare mystery movement here with a mangled balance but until if find someone who can fix a mangled balance spring (ouside of my watchmaking comfort zone), i had to go another route and choose to source a gen v23 which fits the DW case.
BTW: does someone know a balance spring fitting the mystery movement balance assembly? i guess not...

parts breakdown :
valjoux 23 (quite pricy nowadays i had to find out )
VN dial
DW case
cousins pushers
DW & yuki hands
Sternkreutz crystal (Gen service crystal already waiting for install)
Gen crown and tube (old style 703 with long coronet will be installed soon)
Raffles 78350 bracelet, but will be replaced soon by gen

next to her DW sister with mystery movement  also purchased back then and still running strong

and a comparison between the DW 6263 and a Cartel 6263 which case i heavily reshaped though

left DW case, right reshaped Cartel

Congrats! I guess you've fixed the 6 o'clock subdial hand. I wonder if the V23 is slimmer than the 72 and therefore fit you case.

Thanks!

yes fixed the 6 o'clock subdial hand on a pinion. v23 was a direct fit, its indeed slimemr than the v72, same size as the mystery movement.

I get antsy after a several months if a build is not complete! I have to applaud your patience for sitting on the parts for 15 years. The end result was well worth it!

I received one 2 weeks ago and cant see any changes, still too thick compared to DW or VN cases. But who knows...

Would be interesting to see a side by side comparison with your watch.

Hi mate and congrats for your watch!! Nice one ;)
In wondering about the difference between vj 23 and vj72, as you say in the DW mystery movement case you cannot fit a vj72 but only a vj23
I knew that both movements have exactly the same size, only the 12 hours subdial difference, but it seems to be wrong

So you confirm that the vj23 is slimmer respectively to the vj72??

And another question I’m always trying to answer is:
which movements can be fitted in the vj72 case? Only the vj72 and vj23 or we can use something different like 7733/7734, st19, lemania 2310 or even an eta 3018??
Everyone of them seems to be the right size o smaller…
Have anyone done some testing?

On the official Valjoux page I read the specifics measurements of both movements
Valjoux 23 is 29.5 mm x 5.82mm
Valjoux 72 is 29.5 mm x 6.25mm

So vj72 is a bit higher than vj23!!
