DSN vs. EL vs. gen - what are the differences

Hey gang,

since the fiddy is growing and growing and growing on me, please help me out here before I'm losing it.

From what I've read the latest version of the EL Fiddy case was the ultimate case one could humanly get and yet it's still not 100%(?) gen. like... So, what exactly was "wrong" with it and how does it compare to the other fiddy reps?

Did anyone ever make a comparrison of a rep. vs. the gen and if so, where can I read it?

As you might have figured by now, I really want one, but I don't want to exchange every single part over the years, so I'd like to know where to start in order to be as close as possible.

Can a DSN case be modified to be a "frontloader" etc. etc. etc. I might get access to a mill and all and don't mind getting the case from one dealer, the hands from another etc. etc. etc.

So, please advice what to do or not to, or if I should just sit and wait for the ultimate cartel 127 that is said to be available once (when?).

The EL Fiddy case was the best rep Fiddy case, period. Is it 100% the same as the gen? No, but it's the best that was ever made. Good luck finding one.

Not that I'm aware of. Watchmeister over at RWGjr has a Franken-Fiddy, he *may* have done a comparo over there, but I'm not certain.

As you might have figured by now, I really want one, but I don't want to exchange every single part over the years, so I'd like to know where to start in order to be as close as possible.

The "EL" case is the best option. Other than that, I don't think DSN's is the best, a normal rep case might be better. DSN's crystals are the best option right now, but you need to remove the AR, it's too blue and too noticeable. DSN's dial/hands are probably the best option out there right now, as well.

I don't think you can modify DSN's case to be a frontload case, no. I'm not sure of that, however. Why would you want to, though? Who are you going to let disassemble your watch that doesn't already know it's a rep?

Honestly, I'd wait (and save my pennies), another couple of months ain't gonna kill ya, and it'll take a while to source all the parts, any way.

I took awhile to source for EL fiddy parts , took a longer time to make sure they were EL fiddy case . N the amount I spent on it , I can actually get a modded up franken Pam . So depending on how soon u want it on ya wrist and how close to gen ya want it to be ? Last but not least how much you willin to spend on it .

the best pam 127 ever was the v3-v4 EL because the side shows a good bow like look like the gen while all others are more wedge like, the EL dial is EXTREMELY close to the gen, so close that you would really need a gen dial next to it, to make sure and it would take a while too,lol

hands the dsn hands are very very close as well, so you see you need to mod a EL as well, its not good right out of the box...

FRONTLOADING is something that has gotten alot of press time lately,lol
basically it means the movement goes in and out through the front just like the gen


the crystals are all the same so to speak, best option is get an OEM like Crown is advertising for sale but now seems it might take more time because he doesnt have enough people wanting them...

Either way you will need the crystal. Get the crystal, then a basic fiddy/maybe from DSN or Cartel, then slowly source your EL parts...

Yes. Pick your poison, DSN has the better dial and hands, but the standard rep cases are probably a little bit better than DSN's recent Fiddy cases.

The A6497 is visually more accurate than a "Swiss" 6497. Sadly all the rep E movements, including the Swiss ones, aren't great when it comes to decoration/finishing.

I would still suggest going for a DSN one , BC's crystal 1:1 fits EL and dsn fiddy . U got to check with him if it'll fit the cartel fiddy .

it seems the wait for Crowns crystal may be awhile. so do this, get the dsn fiddy and ask him to put the mineral crystal and you will be good

Well, all of our dealer will re-ship if the package gets confiscated. However, Precious Time is in the UK, that should attract a little less attention than a package from China or Hong Kong. T4D doesn't ship from China, either, does he?

Ok, decided on a non DSN to start with, considering that that I'd only keep the hands from the DSN in the long run.

BUT: who from the other dealers has the "Cartel" cases (or should I take something different yet?) and are there any differences at all?!

I read some about The Cartel and that this is basicly Josh and Andrew. What about the others? Is Angus / Puretime fiddy case the same as... say... Silix (just to mention two)? Is everyone else offering the exact same? That would basicly mean that there's EL, DSN and the rest, no?
