I'm not sure if I've been under a rock or what, but I wanted to make sure everyone else was aware of this, as I wasn't until just recently.

There have been some threads in the past about removing AR from the neo-vintage PAMs that shouldn't have AR. I sent an email to Davidsen requesting one of his sapphire replacement crystals planning to remove the AR coating for use in a B series PAM project watch. However, much to my delight, he replied asking if I wanted a crystal with or without AR! I was under the impression that the only non-AR crystal that DSN offered were the ones with the date cyclops. After confirming that he was talking about a crystal for a 6497 powered PAM, I naturally ordered one with no AR.

This is a great thing for people with Pre-A/A/B series PAM reps and are unhappy with the presence of AR.

Just thought I'd pass it along!

Yup, it's a new offering from DSN, unavailable before.

The reason he now offers both A/R and non-A/R Sapphire xtalls is that he's (well, his case maker, really) building a 'correct' pre-V case from the ground up for his new 5218-201/A...202/A etc reps. Those pre-V cases will all come with the sapphire without A/R.

Great news for all Pam rep geeks and collectors, nevertheless :)

(I'm sure JoeJoe will scream in extacy once he reads this thread...LOL!)

I thought this new crystal might have something to with those two projects. Thanks for the confirmation, pal!

Are his crystals standard size? Will they fit Angus 111E for example?

thank you

I would think so, bz. I'm not going to be doing it, though. That's why we have vaccum!

@ hooligan, I don't think you'll need to bother Vaccum for this (unless you need other jobs done).

I was at a mall one day and asked one of those watch-repair stands how much they would charge for crystal replacement, and they quoted me 12 dollars - they will also test for water resistence. Not sure how good they're with this kind of things, but crystal pressing seems like simple enough job.

Thanks for the heads up on this.
