So I'll be the first to admit that I very impulsively jumped into buying a more vintage Panerai watch for my first time out. While people have been going nuts over the newer pams with asian movement, I was longing for an older version, and the swiss movement was a gigantic plus in my books.

So I got pics of the swiss movement, and the seller told me there was old glue on the movement that he opted not to remove since it may harm the nickel plating. Here are pics:

What do you guys think? I don't distrust the seller, but it never hurts to get a second opinion.

Swiss movement it is. As for removing the glue without removing the plates, it's possible but needs to be done with great, great care.

I see no reason to remove the glue. Its a closed CB anyways. The issue would be more along the lines of resale value.

Thanks. I wasn't implying that I wanted to remove the glue. Just wanted to get an opinion on this being a genuine swiss movement.

Not sure why that is. It's just a jpg hosted on imageshack. I suppose it's possible there's malware in a pop-up ad from imageshack though.

I opened the pics with nothing on AVG.
As for the movement, If it's keeping good time, I would leave it since it's closed back.
If you decide to sell or service the movement, I would look at removing it then.
I'm sure the Wiz could do it for you :)

It was more of a personal preference than anything. I'm a newbie at all this replica stuff, but I've always been very confident in my two genuine swiss watches, and slightly leery of getting a watch (replica or not) with a cheap clone, asian or otherwise. For me, it's the difference between getting a replica watch and getting a quality watch that happens to also be a replica.

Maybe my attitude will change later, but right now I'd rather spend a bit extra on a genuine swiss movement. Especially on a watch I'm going to be handwinding almost every day.

I remember getting a cheap $20 rolex and $10 tag heuer watch while backpacking in europe 10 years ago. Getting back home, I was happy to show them off until one time I showed it to someone and it had stopped hours before. It was mildly embarrassing and annoying, and not something I'd want happening to me again, especially if I spent $250 on a watch.
