I don't own one, but I sincerely doubt it would survive "a few years of
heavy wear and tear". If you want a watch that to do that, be prepared to buy a genuine and pay a premium for it to be that durable. I've owned various genuine watches, and most aren't capable of going through "a few years of heavy wear and tear". Then again, it may depend on what you consider "heavy wear and tear'.
If it is water resistance you are worried about, I would never count on a rep (no matter what a dealer says) to be water resistant. If you plan on doing anything more than washing your hands with it on, have it sealed and tested by someone who knows what they are doing. As far as temperature or depth extremes, forget about it. I'm sure some reps have survived being put through some form of "extreme" use, but I would not count on one doing so.
