I bought a DSN005 last year when the hands were superlumed but the dial was not.

With the latest model that he had out, I decided to buy a new dial to upgrade, i.e. new fonts + superlume on dial.

Had it installed (not 100% swappable since the old dial's feet were thicker than the new), but I realized that the lume on the dial is still not as good as those on the hands - only marginally better than my original 005 dial.

Am I nitpicking, or is this standard with everyone else?

You might have been better off to have it superlumed? I just bought a new 005, but am having the dial swapped out and superlumed

You just joined the green dial schmucks club with all the rest of us.
Dial desperately needs to be relumed.

add me to that list. bought the 195 with superlume hands and normal dial. then i bought the improved dial that was still green and not very super and as a extra bonus thin hour markers and lightly applied fonts. sent it back and got a replacement that was a little more super but still had thin green markers and light fonts. now i have about 475.00 tied up in it, i don't wear the watch and can't find a fix for it.

absolutely love the 005...but am a big fan of the autos ....

bought two from Trusty a year or more ago....asian 21j.......saphire w/ 2x ar......short money....got divers deployant straps ....loved them...gave one to brother in law...he gave to some smuck...pissed me off....gave other to future son in law...he loves it......now I miss the watch...

Davidsens is nice but too much money for me now....

am thinking of getting one from Ruby...for short money ...21j but mineral crystal.....also thinking of having vacuum do a work up...new saphire crystal w/ AR...new lume.....etc....

Question?....can I put an asian 7750 28,8 in this watch?......or ETA?

really dont care that Gen is manual wind.....nobody knows but me.

Here's an idea of what can easily be done (at least by Ziggy!)

I bought Davidsen's 195 PVD, and Joshua's 005 dial. I had Ziggy swap out the dials and relume Joshua's dial and the hands so they would match. Here's a pic (sorry, my camera sucks!). Davidsens 005 is now on the way, and another one of Joshua's 005 dials. I'll post pics of the 005 when it is finally done.

But Joshua's logo on the dial isn't that great either... I think its more of a tell than DSN's...

Here's a pic of the gen. You can see that the top arrow on the logo is tilted toward the edge of the "E" in Panerai. Davidsen's is tilted not as much as it should, and Joshua's even further off. Lol, now I can look forward to a Paneristi calling me out because my arrow is too straight up!!! LOL!!! (hey, at least better than 6:30!)

the biggest reason i didn't use joshua's dial to fix my 195 is because of it not having the correct "L swiss made L" so i am still in search of a way to fix my original davidsen dial.

Pics of Gen Pam005:

1st generation, using PAM195 dial:

1stGen005.jpg

2nd generation dial. Note different logo shape & "L swiss made L":

So, as you can see Joshua's dial is not so far off base

Here is a gen caseback:

I think it's pretty damn accurate! (not perfect, but it's more accurate!)

I'm doing something similar... using a generic 009 (plain painted rep base dial with "L SWISS L") to be put on DSN's PVD case with all the fixes (superlume, pin fix, etc). In my opinion DSN's 009 dial's fonts are a bit too big.. and spaced out too much. The only problem with my project is that I cannot find a generic rep dial with "T"... so I switched my plan to do a 9B - with "L" dial.

On your 195 as well, Joshua's dial has more accurate logo (smaller and flatter) and correct number spacing. Especially if the dial is superlumed, I think it's better than DSN's 195 dial.

I guess 005 with "L SWISS L" dial is same as 195 according to JoJo35

I believe this because similar thing happened with 002 and 112 as well.

1st generation of 112 is same as using 2B dial - "L SWISS L" - I read it on TZ.

Just a few (less than 200) G-series PAM005 Logos were made with leftover dials from 195 production, most notably by the 'straight' logo and 'long arrow'. The rest of the G-series (late 2004) was made with updated dial with 'short arrow' logo, but still with only 'L Swiss L' under 6 o' clock.

L Swiss L changed to L Swiss Made L in H-series ('05), not only on 000 & 005 logos, but all historic luminors.

@Joe...FYI, 112 had 'L Swiss L' in E, F and G-series.

cheers,
babola

There is NO REASON to swap dials i a Davidsen-

Not cause his dials are perfect- but because he is now shipping watches with identical cases to the Andrew/josh watches.

If you like the Josh/Andrew watch- just buy the whole thing and have it superlumed. Cheaper and the same result.

Really? Then, why is DSN more? So, is DSN basically a Josh/Andy watch with his dials and superlume? I also noticed that his crowns were not that thick either.

(confused) :?

Well he's not more really-

His prices include EMS- If you buy a few at a time he ALWAYS discounts-

So basically he is including his superlumed Dial and superlumed hands and canon pin fix- On the radiomirs he uses his crown and crown tube- which is a mandatory fix as well as the dial and hands. So basically you get the fully modded watch for less money in some cases than the buy and mod deal, and you get it within days. I'm guessing that each of these fixes with parts. labor and shipping to a decent watchsmith on the forums here is in the $100-$150 range, so he's priced just about right. His AR seems to be a little different than the others- And on many models his crystal sit a little differently- so it's not the identical watch.

But I just got two with the wrong crown and several other little deals wrong- so he will replace them for me, but it does seem somebody over there needs to pay more attention.

BUT- IThe two watches I just got still have that unmistakable "gen" feel to them- even though the 111H dial has lots of stuff off- when comparing photos on the internet- On the wrist it looks SOOOO right and feels SOOO right- the new dial is sort of an amalgam of 111G/111H, so don't try and pawn it off on a gen forum- But go ahead and wear it anywhere with total confidence.

My big beef with the josh/Andrew Sandwhich dials is the damned dial is too shiny and plasticky and TOO deep. Looks 100% fake to my eyes from across the room. When I see a Panerai on a guy's arm and I can't see ANY white from the "1" of the "12", I know it's a rep- cause the gens are not that deep.
