DSN 10d arrived - DSN resolved dial issue!

So My DSN 010d arrived in the US 3 days after purchase using EMS - kudos to DSN and EMS!

I ordered a 10d with the version 1 dial face (he still has those BTW) and original rep case (apparently he claims he no longer makes his own??? this was in a recent email he sent me). Functionally the watch is perfect, the CG lever seems to be spaced as I see it on a GEN and the fit and finish is mostly perfect. My concerns are twofold.

1. Lume dots. I'm not sure if the dots are added by hand but the back outlines surrounding each lume dot are inconsistent. It should look like "o" and instead on 3 of the lume dots the dot seems off center and covers the surrounding black mark. It reminds me on an ice cream scoop that slid too far after placement. Is this normal?

I've asked DSN for either a replacement face or I was thinking of purchasing another v1 face to mod it further as none of the reps seem to have the proper diameter lume dots - they are just a tad small vs Gen. Can one of the pro modders fix the lume dots (make them bigger) and black circles surrounding the lume dot?

2. Lume quality. Despite the fact DSN specificed a superlume, I get very little lume intensity from the Lume dots. They are the same color as the lume on the hands but the intensity is pretty poor. Is this normal? I do not yet have a feel for the level of expectation in these products. I assume this is something a modder like Vacuum or someone else could enhance if needed?

Thanks for the help!

Yep. Any pics for us? While the DSN stuff is usually very nice there still is the possibility of small flaws here and there.

Thanks for the response, here is a pic:

The two lume dot black rings above the 12 are decentered - i.e. the lume dot appears to be on top of the ring. This same problem exists at 4 o clock (not shown in photo), 6, and a bit at 10 (hard to see in the photo).

Thoughts?

I'd suggest that at less than 1/10 of the price for a real one, you should be content. It's a rep, don't forget, and a beauty. The flaw you describe strikes me as absolutely inconsequencial.

hey....no wonder, you dont know much about replica watches.

first of all.....every rep with lume dots has small misplaced problems....look at all the Breitlings. how much precision do you expect ? 1/ 1000th of a mm ?

lume brightness - you must be joking again, how much lume brightness do you think you get out of such a little dot ?

the pictures you have seen where these glow like a torch....is simply exposing the shutterspeed very long.....and they appear very bright.

they can not be as bright as a sandwich dial.

i think you got a very nice, fully modded rep for the money, i truly wonder where else you can get something comparingly for the dough.

be happy....

Re: DSN 10d arrived - happy but a few issues... Advice?

Let me clarify - I am happy... DSN did a great job however these are the most obvious "tells" IMHO. I am just wondering if this is normal for this face and if there is a way to mod the face to enhance the appearance.

H_U: You are right - I do not know that much yet and so I wanted some feedback if what I was observing was "normal". No need to be demeaning and say things like "you must be joking..." I'm just trying to learn. however 1/1000 mm is not quite right, this is more like displaced by a whole mm. Since this site is full of reviews showing how Reps have Panerai logos misplaced by the same distance (1 mm) vs the Gen and call this a "flaw", I just wanted to find out if this is "normal" for a rep of this caliber. Cheers...

Yes, sadly crooked lume dots are par for the course on this dial and others like it, just as h_u said.

Some are better than others, but they are all prone to crooked markers.

You should polish that CG (but not the lever). Any side angle pics of the CG? *Is* this just a normal rep case?

Hooligan - thanks for the input. So can someone like vacuum "fix" this? BTW Thanks again for being so helpful - I really appreciate it.

Aside from this minor issue, the watch is terrific. i was amazed when two people identified the watch out of the blue today - I wasn't quite ready for it yet :) Kinda funny...

Based upon this first transaction, I'll probably be looking at a few more from DSN. I really like the 229 blue faced watch, the 113 white faced PAM (I wish the sub dial was recessed but this may be a pipe dream), one of the Ti watches (176 or something else), and one of the base black face watches. I also really like the Tantalum watches as the blue second hand looks pretty snazzy (172 or 192). This is going to be an expensive hobby :)

you can get it relumed by Vaccum or Ziggy, both expensive but worth every penny if you got the funds.

that's a pretty nice dial. you cant get better than that stock. there is no "normal" in reps. sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not.

if you are demanding perfect lume dots, have a modder remove the old ones and rebuild new ones....or build a franken with a gen dial [smilie=angel10.gif]

I don't know but I think those lume dots look pretty wonky and i would not be happy with them. I have a DSN dial and the dots are excellent. I'll see if i can post pics tomorrow

I don't think it will get better when you send the watch to vaccum. I had my 049 done from vaccum and at 12 is also a small misalignment.

If you need to have it more perfect, you need to franken your watch with a gen dial.

Update: DSN offered to send me a new dial and found one with more consistent lume dots... His customer service is exceptional! I also ordered a 229 and 177. :)
