Dreaded 292k lug problem

Well i was really hoping that I would be a lucky one and get a 292k that didn't have the loose lug bar issue, but I do. It's only a single one but at the moment it means its unwearable due to slipping out.

I've tried all the quick fix methods but it appears that it's not the lug bars themselves that are the issue but that the screw isn't long enough to tighten it down properly.

I've ordered the Panatime SS lug and screw set in the hope that the screws are long enough to counter the problem and that i can still use the original bars. If not then I might just have to live with the SS bars.

I'll update this when I get the new bars.

Thanks for doing the research :)

This is the only thing putting me off the 292K!

(Well, that and lack of money... lol)

good luck, fingers crossed!
I have a 292 case lying in the box to be merged with my dsn 292, I guess I might have to face the same problem.

I know it was mentioned before, but since we have forum accredited DLC masters all it takes is someone to pony up some cash up front for some DLC work and we could all have a solution. I'll think about it if the Panatime parts work as they should. It really is a shame, the 292k is such an awesome looking watch, im so dissapointed at not being able to wear it.

I have one too but I decided not to wait until I loose one of those things so I thread-sealed all 4 of them as soon as I changed the rep strap into something more respectable and before any wear. On plus side, it has been 3 months and no issues at all, although I must confess I wear it may be twice a week tops. On the minus side, the strap change is probably going to be a major PITA so I dread even thinking about it. Such s shame cause it is a nice looking watch but the rep execution of these wire lugs plain and simple crap. Has put me off rep RADs for a long long time.

Mine hasn't given me an issue. I changed the rep strap out for an OEM Nubuck and used loctite on the screws.

Admittedly I only wear it one or two full days in a row but it's been solid. The bars are finicky and need to be inserted just right with the flat end facing the screw so it can seat properly. It does take some patience to get right.

Ok folks, a bit of an update for you.

Good news and bad news.

The Panatime screws are a direct replacement for the 292k screws and are much better, but SS of course and not PVD. They have little rubber gaskets round the head of the screw that will strip off as you tighten them but shouldn't be too much of a problem.

They also are a little longer so will hold on tighter to the original PVD lugs which is also a good thing.

Unfortunately it seems that the actual bars supplied are a little too long when used with the hollow insert to join them together inside the strap.

Also unfortunately for those of use who suffer with the problem that the SS caseback is coming away from the ceramic case slightly and causing the lugs to come loose isn't going to be solved with these replacement bars and screws. I have replaced all the screws on the back as I think the Panatime ones are a lot better. I have left the original bars in place and they seem to be holding. Two are a little loose though and I'm crapping myself over losing them outside. I've used a little locktite on the screws and also the ends of the lugs but that doesnt seem to make much difference on the loose ones. It seems that the only permanent solution to this is to glue/epoxy the loose lug bars inside the lug holes. I could do this and still change straps as long as the opposite lug bar is still removeable.

Bonesey, go on and glue them with blue loctite (243) (i did that on my 210), they will hold the lug inside and secure the screw (use only tiny bits of loctite here please, apply with toothpic). If neccesary you can even loosen the lugs again with some force ;). As long as only one lug per side is not perfect it´s not a problem as per changing straps then. If you need details just contact me or member mambo.

Are your holidays so boring, or is it raining atm :) You´re posting even more tahn at home..

Hey, some black auto silicone. Squirt a little in the hole and the bar so they both have a small amount on them.
Put it together and let it dry. Use a little loctite on the screws.
If your holes are stripped, there's not much else you can do without major work.
Or if the steel is moving away from the ceramic case, marine epoxy will stick 'em together and just don't overtighten in the future, rely on loctite to hold the screw rather than Titas....

Thanks for the advice peeps. I've just noticed as well that the crystal is sitting lower on the side that the lug bars are loose on. So it looks possible that the metal caseback/insert isn't pushed into the ceramic case fully because that's what the crystal is resting on. I'm wondering if dismantling it and then re-assembling it fully would solve this problem entirely.

While you're there, bung a high beat from Getat in it. I've tested mine and it's low beat so am going the Seagull upgrade after finding it too hard to source ETA.
