Does the Deployant Clasp needs Thinner & Shorter Straps?

hi there,

kindly educate me, if you have the knowledge in this area.

I am a bracelet watch wearer than a tang-buckle / pin-buckle watch wearer.

I am looking into some very nice Simona Straps, which are 4mm thick per side.

May I know, for the those in the know, are these too thick for the Panerai-Replica Deployant Clasp?

Can anyone with experience fill me in on this, thanks in advance!

4mm is thick. You might be able to fit it through the deployment, but it'll be tight. You might want to try a decent quality rep assolutamente strap. Those tend to be thinner. 2ish mm

At 4mm thick you are going to experience problems. For that style clasp I recommend 2.5mm or 3mm at the very most

thanks, people, for the answers.

so now I know, I got to strike off the 4mm straps, as I probably prefer the deployant clasp.

Usually with the deployment on gens the strap tapers as well , so 24mmat the lugs to 22mm at the deployment (that's what the straps do for my gen Pam zero with deployment ).

hi Dino7,

may I ask you, do you prefer to use the Pam with the deployment or the tang buckle?

I just read somewhere that one found the deployment a night&day difference, however, one found the deployment uncomfortable.

I don't have a large enough sample size to form a conclusive idea, so I like to ask you, is the deployment clasp an improvement over the tang buckle in these 03 areas?

1. ease of putting on & taking off from your wrist : I believe this should be easier with the deployment clasp.

2. does the deployment clasp cuts into your wrist, during wearing / usage.

3. I assume the deployment clasp is more gentle to the straps as opposed to the tang buckle, which is pinned on a particular hole, which with constant usage causes a dent / stress line to form.

kindly educate me on the above areas, with thanks in advance!

Personally I prefer tang buckles , mainly pre v style large buckles as I like to wear 24/24 or 26/26 straps with no taper and they are generally made with tang buckles - I think a deployment would probably work better on a dressier Pam.

In regard to your questions , I would say a tang buckle is easier to put on/take off as the deployment just increases the length of the strap to put on/take off - depends on the size of your hands really if it makes it a bit of a squeeze to get on/off.
The deployment never really cut into my wrist , also even though a regular basis buckle does leave a mark on the strap it's not noticeable when worn , I also find that adds to the character of the strap (as most decent Pam straps get better with age and a bit of patina in them).

Hopefully that answers your questions !

cheers

Deployant straps are designed for the deployant buckle... They are 4-5mm thick at the watch lugs and the appropriate width of the watch. Then the taper down to 2mm thick and 22mm wide, or in some cases 20mm wide.

the other issue is a deployant strap's buckle end where the pin or tang for the buckle will fit is twice as wide. A regular buckle strap will be hard to fit on a deployant buckle.

they don't cut into you wrist, are very comfortable to wear, and IMO are much easier to put on take off. You don't need to rest your watch on something as you need to tighten a regular buckle. Slip it on and click your done...

ya, that's what draws me to a deployant clasp, because it's easy to put on and take off.

I assumed that from a bracelet strap, which is basically also a deployant clasp concept.
