Gutted. Got this on the group buy the other week, its a birthday present from the Mrs to me which is on friday. Ive been wearin it since it arrived though. This week it has stopped twice in the night, both times at 2.50am. Anything i can do with it? Im coming to the conclusion that this rep watch game aint for me. Ive had probs with 3 out of 4 of my reps. Ironically the 4th one is my cheapest, pam111h and has never given me hassle. Unless you are a qualified w.s you end up with a load of dead watches. Doh.

As a bit of a noob this article worries me. 25% success rate isn't that good!! especially when most decent Reps cost at least $200. Any of the experienced guys got any thoughts on this. Is it just luck or is it better to use someone who you believe uses QC? I know you guys say many dealers drop ship anyway?!

I am in on a group buy at the moment so I guess I will see if its a good way to buy. :?:

I have about 15 reps which whave an A7750 and as of now I had no problems, they are all running fine. I got one problem with an IWC3717 but that was a winding problem, it has an ETA7750 in now. My oldest A7750 is 18 month old and still running fine.

Well that sounds better odds and a better experience! Thanks for the info guru. I am not a watch smith so I wouldn't want too many things to go wrong or I would be in trouble!

It might just be a case of the watch not getting enough movement to build up the power reserve. The A7750 takes a lot of movement to keep it running, let alone build up reserve. Give the crown 40ish very slow careful turns, and see how long it runs for (dont wear it or move it). If it stops again during the night after being fully wound by the crown, then there is a problem.

Might be something as simple as the rotor not spinning freely enough (in which case lubing it may help). Try what I have suggested above, and post the results.

Hope it helps.

Thanks very much for the tips there :D . The stopping did co-incide with me not wearing it for about 3 hours, but still you would think that there would be plenty of reserve left. Im fairly active so would be suprised if it was that it wasnt getting enough movement but its possible I guess. Still love the watch, its a great looker!

Sorry to hear of your problems, Speedster. I'm a noob too--joined up here last January and have since bought 4 reps (very few compared to most of the members here, I suspect). Maybe it is just luck, but I have only had problems with one: my Davidsen PAM 112, which I sent to Vaclume for a clean and it now runs like a top. I have a second Davidsen PAM which runs perfectly, a Bell and Ross Military, and a UPO which I got through D4M. I paid a bit extra in all but the Bell & Ross case to get Swiss movement. I don't know if that's the way to go, and lots of people here swear by the Chinese movements (the Seagull in my Bell & Ross just keeps on tickin'.....). Don't give up. They'll never be as good as the genuine ones, but for the sake of the price of one genuine, you can play with a dozen reps. Good luck!

If it's constantly stopping at the exact same time it's more than likely that the hands are touching each other and stopping the watch.
If your confident enough, removing/resetting the hands ain't that big a job...

Balls! Its stopped again. I think (and really hope) maybe the rotor is not spinning freely enough. If i take the back off what can i lube the rotor with? Wd40? Is there a specific oil i should use? Was my birthday yesterday and my bloody present (the skyland which i have been wearing for a month, lol) doesnt work , boohoo!

Maybe the rotor is loose? Try to take the rotor off and then put it back on and put the right pressure on the scrue.

If it stops in the middle of the night always at the same time and then their is a problem when the date is shiftet, you need a watchsmith for that. I had that on an ETA7750 and my watchmaker repaired it in 30 min. But you have to disassemble the watch.

Good call, I never thought about the date change. Speedster, you'll have to find out if it stops at 2.30am and 2.30pm before you can diagnose the fault properly...

Well this time it stopped at 4.20am, so it seems like its just coincidence that its stopping in the night. I think it is just not winding itself up. When I woke up in the morning it had stopped. I gave it a quick shake, a few minutes later I checked and it had stopped. I did same thing again and the same happened. However when I wound the watch manually it seems to be fine and is still running nicely now (which is why I thought maybe the rotor isnt spinning freely enough). I will order one of those rubber ball caseback removers off ebay and see what I can see in there. Ill check the screw also to make sure that its on properly..

if you don't want to spend the money on the rubber ball just use a piece of duct tape about 3 inches long. stick the middle of it on the case back and take the ends of the tape and ball them up together in the center of your fist. turn counter clock wise and poof! just like magic it will unscrew. no tools needed and no damage to the watch. it's all i use on any screw on case back.

hope this helps,

hk

@ HK, Hmmm, so that's why they call you 'sticky wrists' and I thought it had something to do with seanf...

Speedster you can also try with a rubber dishwashing glove as sometimes the casebacks really aren't on that tight, I'm a 'horb' man myself...

Got the back of easy.Brilliant tip that hk! Cracked the case on the upo too. The breitling rotor doesnt seem to rotate very free flowingly like the upo does. I will take it off again and take a small vid to guage opinions. The rotor is really nicely done by the way..

I have never been able to get the back off my Sub LV, and since my local watchsmith opened and closed it I probably never will, but had not tried on the V1 Skyland. After reading this, I tried it with the dishwashing gloves...twisted right off! I agree, the rotor engraving on the V1 is very nicely done!
