question
I wanna DLC a watch
I saw a PVD212 and fell in love
my question is
a 212 = not saphire crystal correct??
its that mineral crystal

I'm trying to find stuff on how prone to scratches the glass may be... and my searching isn't giving me much
any feed back on them??

I'm thinking about DLCing one and I'm not going to beat the crap out of it... but with putting in some extra $$ to DLC it - Im not going to want a watch that is going to have a difficult to replace crystal... it's not that horribly common of a rep it doesn't seem like... maybe its NOT difficult to replace...
???

I dont know - anyone wanna talk me outta this project??
what would be YOUR reservations be (other than its not a real life watch)

its mineral. Since its domed (I believe) it will be more prone to explode

yeah, I've not had a domed crystal on a rep yet - exploding watches dont sound fun... lol
my homework assignment : research frequency, replacement options, see if other crystal options exist - seeing it will be a "fantasy watch" maybe there are other UNdomed options?

thank you for that - that is the kind of helpful info I'm looking for

I doubt he has any but it might be worth an email to DSN to see if he has any 44 domed sapphire crystals he would sale. It would probably be expensive though.

Just remember that anything domed is more prone to damage. I've see domed sapphire crystals crack on 127s and 217s. So having sapphire doesn't guarantee it won't happen

DSN doesn't offer any domed sapphires anymore (I believe he did, once upon a time?).

They are acrylic/plexi options, but that's about it.

since it wouldnt be a "real" watch
id prob try to go with a very transparent AR coating and not try to make it look real gen like...
when i think of plexi i just dont know if it gives the same effect as a nice clear crystal
but i dont have any experience with them either...
can a plexi option still have a transparent "non vintage" look?
and i could spend days trying to search for someone that has a plexi option - any advice or direction on where to start looking into aftermarket options for something like that?

I just bought a mini fiddy from a member here, with a domed crystal that was cracked and 3/4th of the crystal was completely broken off. I am ordering a replacement from Jackson and Military Time. It is plexi (no AR) and only $15 shipped to the USA. Super cheap.

I think he also has sapphire domed crystals at $35.

Just another option, and further evidence that domed are more fragile than non-domed.
