liking the look of a few of the dlc models. However even with quite expensive gens dlc can make me nervous with regards scratching.. bad dlc is awful , how do the better quality reps hold up?

To each their own, but I am very cautious about DLC. I had a modded Steinhart DLC, and I saw small blemishes appear in the coating after a couple weeks of cautious wearing. I find that being considerate of a utility watch to be very disheartening -- the watch should be used, not babied.

So while I cannot speak to DLC in the rep world, I would consider your lifestyle, how well you look after the watch while it is on your wrist, and consider going with a ceramic model if it aesthetically works you too.

I have 4 DLCed watches and none of them look any worse than when I first got them.

Why not just get a DLC case set from a TD or DSN and have one built. I picked up an H-factory case set and it's looks and feels great. It seems to be of high quality. Hasn't scratched, etc.
it wasn't cheap though, but turned out great
