DLC and cape cod. Advice required.

OK, I'm about to get a nice duo of the 629 and 617. The 617 is V6 and is pretty good as is apart from the DLC being a bit dark. The 629 is a SF which I'm dropping a V6 dome crystal into. I'm thinking that I need to mod them both with a little cape cod love given to the DLC.

So I'm looking for some advice from those of you who have had success. Has anyone managed not to remove too much of the coating from the case edges? How did you manage?

A few gen pics. Rep at the bottom. Some look gun metal while others look straight up black. So I'm thinking I don't want to take too much off. Looks to me not to be gunmetal DLC but black and the cases have been treated prior to DLC to allow the case to really pick up the light. Hard to achieve with these reps but I think I need to cape cod them a little. Or if someone has other advice, even better.

This is the rep but sead's pics always look flat. DLC looks much better in Angus' videos.

I cape codded my kw 360 and it looks great. Just give it a light once over, clean and check it out. Better to take too little off than too much.

Agree, remember that case will look a little lighter once you clean it from cape cod residues, at least in my experience, so check it often.

Thanks for the replies. So you guys think it's better to have the lighter case with a glossy finish rather than just putting up with the slightly darker case? I'm in two minds whether to do it or not.

Another option would be to use sandpaper in a slightly coarser grit, say 1500/2000, that would soften the coat and add less shine. But you'd have to be extra careful 'cause the chances to mess it up are higher.
In the end no solution is ideal, I guess it's all a matter of taste.
Maybe I would try wearing them as they are and see how I feel about it.

I was thinking some kind of "soft" bead blast might do the trick.

Sounds a bit too rough even if "soft" imho

I still can't in my mind figure out what they are actually coating these cases with. PVD to be sure, but DLC, "Real DLC" cannot be removed with light cape cod treatment. Or fine sand paper for that matter. As it is an actual Carbide coating, and much harder than either.

I think we're kinda being had as our reps are being represented as having a finish that they just do not have.

On a side note, whatever happened to Avitte, who was doing DLC coatings? Saw him a lot over on RG a few years ago.
