DJ36 Franken - what's Gen? what's rep? UK

Hi,

I've purchased a second hand Franken, with a Gen movement.

I'd like someone knowledgeable to go through the watch and work out just how gen the movement is. Also what other parts are gen, and what are not.

Need someone in the UK to do that, any suggestions?

The case is rep, and I'm keen on housing it in a gen 116234, but not sure if it's worth it.

Thanks

Many thanks for this.

Is it possible to "replace" or fettle the balance bridge and the balance wheel. Or does this mean it is genuine?

But how gen if so? Could that part be gen and much else rep?

I ask this as:
- the automatic rotor pin looks different, and is solid.

- escape wheel, it's hard to tell, as it's moving, maybe those with a better eye can tell.

- movement code/serial. I've had a search, but not been able to find if there's common faked codes.

Many thanks

To me the rotor screw/pivot looks exactly like gen, which is "solid" (if I got what you meant).

Escape wheel: I guess you mean the balance spring since the escape wheel is hidden under the bridges. If you want to have a look at that to check the weighted screws you can simply, carefully, use a toothpick to stop its movement, it won't damage the gears.

Thanks very much.

In your general view, are you thinking it's a gen movement? I imagine it'd be hard to make it looks partially gen.

Thanks

Judging from a cursory comparison with gen pics it looks that way, but I'm not an expert and would ask @dogwood for a final verdict.

Balance is gen. The automatic works looks gen (engraving is very sharp). The winding bridge looks gen too (sharp engraving of 3135). But hard to tell without looking through a loupe. The finishing on Dandong movements is very good these days, you really need to look closely to see the difference in surface finishing of metal parts.

As for the rest, I don’t know. I’m a grease monkey mechanic. I look at movements. Bodywork and upholstery is somebody else’s department.

@dogwood many thanks

I don't suppose you know if
Rep hands, rep dials, rep Crowns etc...

...could be fitted to (what appears to be) a gen movement?

I would guess you could mod a dial to fit.

Not sure about the other bits and pieces though.

FYI, The case and bracelet are rep.

Many thanks

A rep with a clone movement usually can interchange with gen parts without a problem.
