Difficulty choosing a IWC

Hey everyone and a happy Easter holiday.
I hope someone here could maybe guide me into the right direction, as I’m having real difficulties in choosing a decent IWC watch. (Yes I did read the newb section, and I’m not asking for what watch is best bros)

Ye……I’m still new here.
However I tried consuming as many infos as possible. But even after reading countless topics, looking at the consensual super rep list + who makes the best guide, I’m still very unsure about IWC. (Many other brands would be a lot simpler to decide for me by now)

The watch I’m currently most interested in is the IWC Portugieser IW3716 (or general a Portugieser)

It would be highly appreciated if maybe someone more knowledgeable on IWCs could point me in the right direction On what rep makes sense to order and isn’t a straight up tell.

Thank you in advance, if someone here finds the time to help me.

Enjoy your weekend guys.

Well this is the rigth place to ask that kind of questions. You basically are asking for a personal opinion and just about every member will have their own so you will probably get lot of those :)

You were very lucky I just had picked up my watchbox when your post arrived. I have both a Portugieser (have had in fact many of them) and a Pilot. And here is my mening about it.

I absolutely love the Pilot. So much that I upgraded the rep to a gen. I think it is more cool and sporty. It is not a "pretending watch". And it has luma on the hands and numerals which makes it actually usable the whole day around.

Don't get me wrong I like the the Potugieser too, but never fell in love with it. It is a more classical type of watch (that's why in my opinion I wouldgo for a pilot if you need a chronometer which spells sporty). In this model I really love the annual calendar but god it is unreadable. I had a steel version first. Depending on how the ligth falls on it sometime you cannot see the hands at all. SO you end up turning and twisting your wrist and people will think you are trying to show off the watch while you are just trying to read the damn time. Eventually I ended up with the rose gold version that is less prone to this issue. Still it happens but not that much. At least until the sun goes down and then you migth as well look at your phone for the time :) .

Anyway as said it a matter of popinion. You got one here. More I am sure will come....
...and welcome to the forum

Wow thanks for the input, and sharing some of your beautiful collection :)
Yes I also love the pilot, however I already got a gen Pilot, and hence looking for something else.

And since a good friends wedding is coming up, I thought why not try a Portugieser, for something a little more formal.

May I ask the one you have, is it the one from ZF with the 23J? And are you happy with its performance, and looks compared to the genuine one?
I’m currently also looking at the model or alternatively the IW371604 also from ZF.

Once again shot for helping

Yes it is the ZF. I am not sure what movements is but it works perfectly. Day, date and month change at the right time. In my opinion is a close to perfect replica. By mistake I actually went into the Omega store having it on my arm (I had forgotten, on purpose I never do that) to pickup a gen that had been serviced and the person there couldn't stop appreciating the design. Of course as a rep is not a real annual, so you have to advance day and date yourself on non-31 days months. Also it is a little on the large size so it depends on how big is your wrist. Mine is 19 cm and it fits well. What I like is also that everything is set by the crown, no pushers. So the sides of the watch have a beautiful mat clean look. SO I definetely can recommend the ZF version of this watch.

Unfortunately I have no experience with the IW371604, but from the pictures looks also a very stylish, clean design. I like it.

Good luck with the hard decision :)

IW3716 by ZF if can help you...

Oh yes! Didn't know this model but it looks great! I think the blue hands solve the visibility problem and the watch is in a more human 41mm size. Very nice look. It adds a little sporty look back into the classic lines. Great watch, really.

the first thing to sort out is what type of watch you like / wanna have
pilot watch?
dress watch?
dive watch?
multiple complications watch, aka show off watch?

I have a Portugieser chrono made by ZF and I am perfectly satisfied with it. It's the one with display case back and the movement, if I am not mistaken, is an A7750. With decorated rotor and movement. Beautiful to see, pretty close to the real one, except for the strap that is awful. Regarding it, you will find lot of information inside the forum. Many members consider A7750 like a timebomb, meaning that it can works perfectly for years or stop working after a month. Mine, after about six months, works fine, keep good time. But consider that I wear a watch for 3/4/5 days at least, then I change it. And having a lot of rep, and increasing them, it means that I wear it only once sometimes. ZF for what I know is the best factory for IWC Portugieser.

but extremely rotor noisy
Yes it's true. But I will not say "extremely". It's noisy, yes, but not more noisy that some VSF Panerai that I have purchased. Of course, it's always a question of personal expectations and sensibility.
