Its no secret that I'm obsessed with Daytonas (wearing a Newman right now [emoji51]). So when the opportunity came up to get a Gen service dial I couldn't pass it up. This is meant to be used to replace big red 6263 Daytonas that comes in for service. The dial is extremely rare because it's a serif font dial (most service dials are non-serif and small red Daytona txt). While the spacing isn't quite as wide apart as the Tritium counterpart, the font is the same beautiful big red typeface with serif.

Having had various high end rep dials in the $800-$950 range I would say that they're extremely close to the gen dials if you go to that range. However the gen dial shines more in the quality control - the plate they use is extremely strong and well finished which enhances the print quality. The welds on the feet is also beautiful (just look at it!). And the indices are highly polished and beautifully finished.

That being said, to get from a rep dial that's 9 out of 10 to a gen dial the price difference is several thousand dollars. So all in all the high grade rep dials is more than good enough!

Now onto the photos of the gen dial and hand set.

Great observation on the gen vs high end rep dial comparison. I have to agree with you. I have also owned many high end rep dials and gen dials. One point I would add is the way the raised text on a gen Rolex dial reflects light. In addition to being perfectly printed It is almost as though the light reflection on the text highlights the printing under the crystal. Once you have seen a gen dial out of the case it is hard to mistake one when you see it.

Thanks Tim! Definitely was cool to see the difference up close. Studying photos is one thing but having the dial in person can really set it apart!

Thank you Mr. Smith! Tons of patience, and a little bit of taking chance / risk!
Sometimes you got to take crazy risk to get awesome parts. And this is defiantly a keeper. Congrats can't wait to see the build it go's in?
