Davidsen 201a dial swap--ideas?

I picked up a second generation Davidsen 201a with the idea of swapping out the dial for something else. Any ideas? I am partial to sandwich dials ---does Davidson make a Pam 112 base dial and would the case of the 201a be appropriate (regardless of caseback) ?

Any suggestions or ideas?

im assuming all DSN's dials fit his cases, respectively to their size.

I like sandwich dials and apparently his are awesome...

Peepshow...hmmm, I thought he only had two generations of the 201A? :1) Sausage dial --thin numbers (I Own) and 2) The curent dial he shows with Orange lume and fat cutout numerals (I now own two)?

I am gunning for a 112 style face or something unusual in a brown?

The shame is that anything cool--like the 3646 deco dial face or the other one that looks like the plus sign with all the dots (yep thats getting technical  ) May be too big since they are for larger cases?

Wow--so whjy didn't he just keep making the 2nd generation ones too?

Maybe now I'll redial two 201a's!

Any ideas as to what else I can make with the basic 201a watch by changing dial out?

does anyone know if the Davidsen vintage dials for his 47mm watches fit his 44 mm watches? I'd love to plunk a cali or 2533 dial in this!

I would think not without mods to the dial (i.e. grinding away the edges to make it smaller overall), but I have no idea for certain.

Sorry, I guess I'm not much help, huh?

Well, I just did a side-by-side comparison with my Davidsen 6152, my Davidsen MM20 and a "normal" 44mm PAM rep, and the dial face is definitely smaller on the 44mm. I know Davidsen uses larger dials in his 44mm cases than the "normal" reps, but I would bet dollars to donuts that you'll need to grind away some of the dial edge to get it small enough to fit.

Now, the $64K question is if the dial openning from the front of the case of your 201A big enough so as not to cover any of the markings of a 47mm dial. I'd bet the 2533 dial would work, the markers seem to be set in a good amount from the visible limits on that case. I'd be a little nervous that some of the red border printing on his Cali dial would get covered, especially the "Swiss Made" at the bottom of the dial...

201/A dials

that would generation 3 and 4 by description. If you had actual Generation 2 dials, you could sell them for good money as they are no longer available and have not been for some time ...

Man I love those dials.

I have a back-up - not for sale.
