When I looked to do the TimeZone watch course, I saw it was possible to do with with a 6497 movement. I imidiatly started to look if it would be possible to turn this course into a Panerai watch.

After 4 disassembly, one full service, few bad luck, I finished my project yesterday night. I'm really happy with the result and learn a lot from this project.

Even if PAM purist will say it's inaccurate, not perfect, wrong movement etc.. I don't care, I did it the way I wanted it to look and I used the swiss 6497 I had around ;p

Most of the parts are from DVN (Case, Crystal with double AR, good lume, hands) and the Strap is a Bob Vertigo. Let me know what you think

Now, I will see what I will do with the Chinese 6497 and ETA 2436 I have here :p

awesome!!
Always build the watch the way YOU want it done.. after all, you're the one that has to wear it. I love those blue hands too!

thanks guys

Quick question: Is the crown supposed to be flush to the case (like mine) or having a small gap ? I wonder if I cut the stem too short. :?

Don't fret much about it, there's actually more reps around without the gap than with one. Gen crowns come with "shoulder" on the inside, creating a ~0.5mm gap between the crown and the case.
Check your crown first, if it has the shoulder then you should install it away from the case for the width of the shoulder and use an extra o-ring seal to compensate (you'll also need a new slightly longer crown stem).
If it's close to flat on the inside, leave it be, the crowns without the shoulder look much worse when installed off the case, as the narrow neck would be much more noticeable.

You'll also nee to modify the lever (ground/sand off the lever tip) to enable correct fit with the crown when closed.

Good info babola I was wondering why my new watch had that shoulder. It sits 1mm out so I should grind down the shoulder a bit? Great looking base by the way I just got one and love it!

Nope not the shoulder, leave that alone. You need to shorten the crown stem, which brings another issue about as your CG lever will become too short to engage against the crown...the only way to fix that problem would be to grind off the CG feet which isn't an easy feat when done by hand.

Better leave it be.

I think I posted on the other forum as well, but I like what you did here. You took whats available and went off the same old beaten path to get what you wanted. I'm thinking about a 104 with gold hands now. :D
