Hey guys, not sure where to start here on the forum for this specific inquiry, so I’ll start here.

I have a handful of reps I inherited from a family friend, including a nice Daytona replica with brown bezel / ice blue dial (supposed to be replica of the platinum Daytona, I presume). Anyway, I’d like to replace the dials on a couple of them and am wondering if anyone can share some resources.

I opened up the Daytona and found that it has a movement similar to a 7750, which I’m sure you’re all aware of. Here’s a pic, please correct me if I’m wrong :

Anyway, I digressed. What I would like to do is replace the dial with either some sort of sterile dial or perhaps something unique and/or custom. Nothing too fancy, as I’m aware there are some high-end options offered to gen Rolex customers, but that’s well above my budget for this.

I really want to wear this watch and would enjoy using an automatic Chronograph for daily use, I just don’t want it to look like it’s trying to be a platinum Daytona.

Please note: I do not judge anyone who would wear this watch in public. I just can’t pull off a platinum Daytona, so I’d like to move away from replica into more “homage” territory. I have a VS Sub super rep that I am proud to wear, partly because it’s such a damn good replica, but also because I feel like I can pull that off. The platinum Daytona simply doesn’t match the current vehicle that I drive well enough to fool anyone :ROFLMAO:

I know there are things to consider besides size when replacing a dial, especially for a chronograph. Is there something specific I need to look for, or a resource to investigate for information about my dial? I’m not very knowledgable in watching modding, as you can see.

Any help would be appreciated, and let me know if there’s somewhere else on the forum that is better-suited for an inquiry like this.

Thanks!

The problem with the 77xx Daytonas and trying to find another dial is that they have added extra gears to move the 9 O Clock seconds to 6 O'clock- this can muddy the waters significantly IRT finding any sterile dial that would fit.

I think you would save yourself a lot of headaches if you sold these and followed @Tigerdragon 's advice. If you are not opposed to a quartz (VK63) chronograph- there are a myriad of options at low price points.

best of luck.

Well that’s the thing, I don’t want to replace a perfectly good automatic Chrono with a quartz watch. The bones and the guts are great, I just want another dial. Simple fix, in theory. Just looking here for some information.

No I meant just buy a homage watch and sell the automatic one example:

Quartz costs me 90 €.

I would not recommend to let the A7750 always running that movement will break if it's unserviced.

Thanks, but I do not want a quartz watch. I want an automatic Chronograph, which this is. All I want to do is replace the dial.

you can look on Ali Express- but the chances of alignment of all the subhands , stem height, and dial size all working out is pretty low.

You could simply remove the existing dial and have someone sand it down and repip/lume/paint the dial.

I fully understand wanting a mechanical watch over quartz- but be aware that if you are keeping the watch to use the chronograph function- it will not be very reliable and will likely fail.

The 77xx chronograph module with the 6 OClock seconds modification is not reliable at all.

I had one in my Hublot on the picture, didnt use the chrono at all i didnt even handwind it and it still broke after 5 years :D They are really not reliable and mine was a standard one not the 6 Oclock ones.

Than to replace a dial? Not sure that math works…
Custom dials are expensive. I’m currently waiting on a quote for a one off dial and was warned that it would be costly. The other dials are around $600+ USD, so I’m expecting this custom dial to be north of $1k. Not to mention a custom dial for a 7750 may be challenging to find since it’s not exactly a popular movement option for Daytonas these days.

You’re much better off selling your watch and getting a Daytona with 4130 clone.

Unless your watches have sentimental value since they were inherited. At which point, leave them as is and enjoy them for what they are as long as they last.

I think he don't want to have rolex on the dial so buying a 4130 clone would not make much sense in this case.

He mentioned not being able to pull off a Platona. But maybe a SS Daytona would be in his reach.

I guess that’s what I was looking for, whether or not these Daytona reps had a universal layout that would fit the dials I’m finding in AliExpress etc. I suppose there’s only one way to find out… I appreciate all the feedback. I’ll update as soon as I make a move.

There is only a small amount of plug and play in the rep game- and unfortunately you are taking about a model that has about the least of all the popular models

hey gang, im almost in the same boat, but im kinda opposite.

I see alot of rep Daytona dials for 7750 and Val 72 movements. I have a Homage with a VK63.. LOL im the other way around.
I have read that the subdial hand positions for the 7750 and VK63 are about 0.5mm off, which is almost doable but it probably will be noticeable.

Has anyone here had experience on the Val 72 movement, how are the hands positioned from the centre?

Glad for this forum, for all the valuable discussion

Cheers,
Shannon
