Curing the Last Eye Sore - KW/V6F Canon Pinion

Dear friends,

I've decided to start a thread on something that's been bothering me for the longest time, the fake canon pinion of the KW hands. I'm proud to own three PAMs from KW - KW 346, KW 127 and a Bronzo - though extremely sexy in finishing and built quality, the oversized canon pinion has become a bit bothering, especially on the 346.

Recently I've received my PAM111, modded by the beloved [MENTION=89226]Dochere2[/MENTION], the polished noob canon pinion is just pure sex to look at. Then I received my prof xtal on the PAM 346 and I couldn't help staring at the fake CP anymore.

I've got two questions that I was hoping the community would be able to provide some insights:

1. I did some research and from a bit dated post the fake canon pinion is actually a "cap" built onto the minute hand, which covers the real CP underneath. The real CP is standard, similar to noob. Will I have to source additional hand set that allows the real CP to show?

2. Who would be able to do the mod?

Here's some pics of my 346 on double AR xtal. It's gorgeous but I think a gem-like CP would really hit it home!

Best way to do this mod is to make a new canon pinion "cap" with squared edges, and a flat polished surface, as the rep 346 pinion on that movement is not really modifiable to the form of the 6497 movement pinion.

Thanks Slaughterer. Have you done such mod yourself? I wonder if the cap is actually part of the minute hand it self, and how would one go about making a square edge cap?

You have a valid point the 346 pinion actually looks much bigger, like 1.5x the diameter of the 6497 movement CP of the noob 111. The 6497 based KW 127 is also a bit bigger than noob 111 but much smaller than the KW346.
