Hi guys was in touch with Ctime this morning; i got tired of waiting for a used 116503 YG/SS with MOP dial to come up in sales. So decided to pull the trigger. I asked about the watch and the first thing he said in his response was ‘the plating will fade’ i asked if i was to wear it everyday how long do you think before i see signs, however I didn’t hear back yet.

im not expecting it to last forever but not expecting to fade in a month. I was reading an old thread about their colour being cheddary, has anybody had issues with their plating as of recent??

thanks in advance

If a trusted dealer offers additional plating services, I doubt they'd say it will fade. What you're referring to is the factory plating. In that case it would be useful to know which factory model you wanted to buy.

As a rule, treat the watch with care, wipe it off every day to remove any skin/sweat residue, and it will last longer.
A daily beater will fade and scratch easier though.

To not confuse you, CTime does not equate to Clean Factory. Just make sure the watch you ordered is from the factory you want it.

They are basically telling you, if it fades, it is not their fault and you're buying under your own risk.

You can always find someone to replate it should it fade, but I personally do not go for any replica gold models.

Ah ha I thought all the models on the c time site meant clean factory. Cheers for that.. but the model i was looking at is clean factory.

when he said it’ll fade right off the bat, i was thinking he was just putting his disclaimer out there. Id defo be interested in replating if its prolong the life of gold. Guess its a matter of finding the right modder for the job.

Just get it replated or from factory, recently Clean has good tone plating.. just don’t use it everyday, anyways it’s not a daily watch with the MOP and moissanite and two tone imo

You don't need to plate a clean two tone watch unless you don't like the colour shade. I've used polishing cloths on Clean's bracelet in an attempt to lighten the colour (to a pretty shade) and it simply didn't budge. It's was reacting almost like PVD or paint, rather than a plating haha. It did not wear. And although worn most days for nearly a year, it hasn't changed. I'd only plate it if you don't like the colour man.

So maintenance wise were you just wiping down with microfibre to remove skin oils etc after wearing.

Guys, why don't you order what you want and look at it in person before deciding what needs to be replated ? You're going by opinions, which are just that.
I’d love to do that but I’m in Dubai, no one will replate it here and if they do it’ll cost more than the watch, and to ship replate and ship back will cost a lot more than to just replate and send over

He’s a TD for a reason; bc he can be trusted. It’s pretty damn admirable that he’s so honest as to even help you decide, bc most dealers will simply ask, “which do you want to buy?” And say “all models are good”. It makes me smile knowing we have TDs that aren’t solely in it for the profit!

No, Ctine is not CF aka Clean aka Clean Factory.

When long standing members of this forum make a suggestion, I take it as the gospel of Paul. If they say “personally I stay away from plated”, there’s a real good reason for it. As far as cheddary, full gold models next to a gen gold will look that way. That’s why you don’t see many of them comparatively.
I think the Rolex Bluesy sub is the best looking watch in history, but since the gold will wear off, I stayed away from buying. But, I tend to wear a piece daily for a few years before switching up. If I switched up often, let’s say I wore it once a week to dinner, it would last a very long time.

No wax is going to a) be invisible 100%, or b) prevent fading 100%. It may be worth a try for you, but only you can determine that.

As far as replating, I just got quoted $380 for a D41 bezel only in white gold. I declined. That was from a professional jewelry plating device in NYC, in all fairness. But before you jump on relying upon that needing done occasionally, I’d get some pricing from modders listed in the modders section.

Lastly, fyi ALL plated watches will fade, it’s just a matter of time and the design of the shape. I had a Tissot years ago that had these portions of the links that protruded above the rest of the surface. Since they got in contact with the world around me more easily, that area faded first. It took a few years, but it was definitely noticeable, and made it almost impossible to resell.

Hope all these replies help you decide, but in the end only you can. I’d recommend buying both if you have the funds; a SS for daily, and a 2tone for special occasion wearing.

Mate i really appreciate the time you’ve taken to help us noobs out. honestly I’ve only been buying SS models for this reason. It’s funny you talk about a bluesy being sexy; i missed one on here a couple weeks ago as seller withdrew the sale. I messaged him last night saying id be willing to buy it and i think I might be able to get my hands on it next week. I’ll defo take caution and just wear it sparingly. Thanks again for your wonderful insight . Cheers buddy
