Had some spare time today and finished a few jobs i was behind with...

I got a PA cheapie Speedmaster back in November.

The idea to try actaually came from Col asking this question.

Not bad at all, I wonder if a correct domed perspex crystal will fit?

So I ordered the crystal from cousins (Part No. PW5139 for GBP 19,10 + tax + shipping = GBP 27,30) to try the 1:1 swap with it.

Results? see for yourself

Remove the bezel insert first, so you can access the gasket. Rep gasket worked well with the swap. The gen crystal fitted 1:1 and is dead tight in the case after pressing in :cheer: I have no idea if the height is 100% but the gen crystal is worth the money anyways :

Well, it´s still a cheapie from PA, but a better looking one now :

Nice post. I also got the Moonie from Priceangels and really like it, it looks great on a NATO strap.

I also want a more bulbous crystal so I have been planning on switching it. Although I'm not too keen on spending almost 50% of the cost of the entire watch on a new crystal. heh

Someone suggested a Sternkreuz High Dome crystal from CousinsUK as a cheap replacement. It's only £1.65 so I'll get one the next time I order from them and see if it works. They are available in lots of sizes though. Did you measure the rep crystal so I know what size to order without having to pop it out beforehand?

I'm getting ready to do this myself. I popped out the crystal from my Moonwatch (also from Priceangels), measured it at 34mm and ordered the £1.65 Sternkreuz High Dome from CousinsUK.

I have a question about the insertion of it; you say to "Remove the bezel insert first, so you can access the gasket" Why do I want to do this and can't I just push it in without removing the insert?

Hope it fit's 1:1. make sure you have some epoxy around if not

I removed the bezel insert ( glued in ) to make sure i don't scratch or dent it when pressing in the crystal.

I never even attempted to use the original gasket, I just want straight to glue.....

That little symbol in the middle just ads the nicest little bit of detail.

I went ahead and installed my Sternkreuz crystal. I tried pressing it in but it wouldn't stick so I had to resort to the trusty GS Hypo Cement which worked well.

All in all a nice cheap upgrade. :thumbsup:

Yes that's a 34mm High Dome (without Step)

Do you also have the Priceangels moonie? I'm interested in freezing the 6 subdial as well but haven't found any good info on how to do that on a quartz.

No sorry Poker it's the hand winder, but I believe the 34 fit's it as well. I guess I'll find out soon.
