My latest purchase was his new pre-v 5218-201A. The item arrived about 4 weeks ago and everything looks good at first until I wind the movt via the crown. The feeling was different comparing with his usual PAM reps. I held up the watch and look at the side of the CG. I then realised that the crown position was raised much higher. So when I am winding the movt, the upper portion of the crown protruded out too much leaving very little portion below causing more friction on my thumb. Other than this, the watch runs pretty well.

I wasn't too anal about it at first but after wearing it for a week or so I began to feel frustrated to it because it was painful to wind the movt.

I emailed DSN for help. About 3 days later, he sent me a reply asking me to return the item back to him as he will do a case swap for me. It was very nice of him so I sent the watch back.

It took only a week or less and my "new" 201A arrvied.

I read from other forums that some members are unhappy about DSN's PAMs (mainly QC issues). I hope that DSN has worked out something for them like what he did for me.

Other than the seemingly "thin" crown, I think my 201A looks very good.

Hope he is reading this and will offer me some better crown

To DSN, thank you very much for your prompt response and the help given.

You made me a happy customer .

It is known that DSN's newest 201/A case had the crown sit too high and other flaws too...Looks like he replaced it with the old case which is better IMO...

Nice looking watch...Enjoy...

My 176, which I waited a month for (not Davidsen's fault) arrived today and has this exact same crown issue. My crown sits too high and I can barely grab it to wind it. My fingers rub the CG on the back. It's driving me nuts already, but I hate to send it back as I literally just got it and it's so nice otherwise.

Believe it or not with the higher crown it is easier to wind than the gen. With the gen you really can only move the crown 1/8 th the way per every thumb twist. Takes time to fully wind if you let it die.

Im confused. Are you saying you recommend winding with your thumb only? I grab the crown with my thumb on the front and forefinger on the back.

I use my index finger and thumb. I was just saying when the crown is higher than the crown guard you actually get more leverage and are able to rotate the crown much further per twist than when the crown is perfectly centered. The gen has a slightly different case guard which causes you to have to rotate the crown little by little.
