Hi mates,
Back when I started to deal with reps in general and spent a sizable part of my time reading about the business, I remember simply hating these PAMs finding them weird-looking at best. It took me a good 8-10 months to realize that I have gotten hooked by something about them, either Luminor-based designs, or, particularly some of the Radiomir models. I started to buy PAMs, like what I had, wishing to buy more, etc. I guess it sounds way too familiar, eh?
If I had to make a single purchase of the genuine models and funds were available, I would choose the PAM 373, with no reservations. Too bad that reps of this particular model are low fidelity ones, for its special case, platinum, and the sophisticated P.3000 movement. I happen to own a cheaper rep version, just to quench my desire, but ever since I wanted to do it better.
When PAM 449 came out I saw it as a good next contender on the top of my list, even though it has the same P.3000 movement but at least it is housed by a stainless steel case. Of course to make the story a little bit less easy, the hands are those special-looking, very rare blue color ones and the rehaut is engraved S.L.C. indicating homage to the Italian famous torpedo "Pig", "Siluro a Lento Corsa".
With the so-called Super Clone P3000 movement surfacing in the latest PAM 372 versions, I started to rethink the old project of my grail PAM 373. Is there a feasible way of building a replica (or homage) of the PAM 449?
Base: PAM 249 best rep model could provide the case, case back, hands, crown, crystal
Dial: could be taken from an available version of PAM 373
Movement: could be taken from a new PAM 372, or better yet sourced separately just by itself
Of course I am aware of the possible pitfalls of this project, but I ask some of the more seasoned PAM fans with experience in mods: is this idea tenable at first sight?
