hello,
i don't know much when it comes to watches in general, but i do know what i like and am hoping you guys can answer this question for me. . . . i have a rep luminor submersible 1000m automatic and was wondering if it is possible to switch out the automatic movement for a mechanical hand wind which is much more preferable to me? I'm thinking the possible stumbling block here is the date wheel. . . is there a mechanical movement that will handle the configuration on this watch (if so, what do i need to get?)
thanks, hopefully you guys will have some good news!

If its an A7750 be very careful with manual winding it.

Ziggy did a review on this before and showed that the A7750 movement gears were'nt very strong, i.e. manual winding them too fast ended up damaging the the movement, wearing off the gears, and having tiny metal shavings all inside the movement and casing.

If you insist, you have to do it very very slowly with very little strength.

This is the sole reason why I never went for DSN's "little"/"big" Egi. I don't trust an A7750 as a manual wind movement.

I'd have to agree with unreg on this one. I've read that thread from Ziggy, as well.

What is it, exactly, that you prefer about handwind movements?

thanks for all the replies. . . . here's my situation: i purchased the rep from trevor watch back over the summer and have found that it is constantly falling behind (even when left on a winder when not being worn). as a result, i don't where it very often because i always have to set it, and then even while wearing it and living life it falls behind. the other day, i took it off the winder, set it, and put it to the side (after winding it to be sure) and when i looked about 2 hours later, it was already about 35 minutes behind, but still running. i have another automatic (luminor arktos gmt from watcheden) that has gained 30 minutes from extended time on the winder. so, i just don't particularly care for automatics due to those experiences, but really, i just prefer the experience / elegance of a hand wind mechanical. it's hard to describe, but those who feel the same know what i mean :)
taking the rotor off didn't solve my problem (which if i stated that to begin with, you guys would have told me so), so i'm back to my original question. is it possible to have the movement swapped out for a true mechanical, and if so, can someone point me in the right direction on where and which movement i need to fit this case? thanks!

No, it's not possible with anything off the shelf.

Your best option would be to get a genuine ETA/Valjoux7750 and remove the rotor. The real Swiss movement would be able to stand up to the handwinding.

However, your timekeeping issues aren't related to the manual/automatic debate. The bad timekeeping is simply an issue with the individual movements in question. Most likely they both need to be serviced.
