Hey everyone.
So I am gathering the parts to put together a daily beater vintage 47mm watch. Getting the lion's share of the parts is easy. $80 to Jackson for a complete watch, and then trading to other members for DSN crown guards and plexi's. I had a DSN solid case back already. So for the most part, coming together quite cheaply, so for a daily beater, awesome.
The problem is the dial. As we know there isn't much choice for base dials unless one spends about $80 (DSN) to $120+ (Southy).
BlueRadish was kind enough to bring me a sterile Jackson dial to tinker with.
Here is what it started it's life as:
The dial was stripped down to bare brass. I then made a mix of JB Weld, and brass dust that I got from sanding a piece of sheet brass I had kicking around. I used the 5 minute JB Weld. This was pushed into the second hand opening and the four hash marks surrounding it, and after it dried I lightly sanded it:
The underside, you may notice some engraving under the 12. I am having a local engraver pantograph it.
After sanding and cleaning I gave it a couple of light coats of self leveling primer, which will then be covered in flat black:
I will post some more pictures after it is painted and engraved.
