I found the picture below showing one of our favourite Pannie (PAM029 GMT) from a popular and reputated site that sell gen watches.

Now. Pay attention to the thin ETA datefont and seemingly thin crown. Is this correct or it is some transitional model etc???

Looks like PAM029 GMT sold by davidsen to me.

This site is a hot place for second hand gen watches.

Please give your opinion.

Wow, that's a tough one. I agree that the font and the crown both appear to be a bit thinner than we would expect for a gen watch. However, the number engraving on the bezel and the hands look correct. Especially the GMT hand. Our reps use a GMT hand that has a noticeably bigger "triangle". Here's a pic of DSN's 029 for example:

I'd want to see the boxes and papers for this one. If this is without box and papers, I'd be skeptical.

Gotta agree with that ETA datefont. Looks fishy. I will demand box and paper too.

- crown thinner than gen PAM crown
- lesser number of teeth on the crown
- low-bar on letter 'A' in Panerai dial txt
- thin date font (stock ETA)
- low date magnification
- number 6 and 9 have a typical 29 rep issue - the thiner line portion where the loop joins the main body of a number. Gen PAM29 numerals 6 and 9 have a uniform line thickness.
- not a DSN 029 rep, his dial and case are unique and easily distinguishable from the standard 29 rep dial/case.

Standard PAM029 rep...may not even be true-GMT ETA-2893/A2 powered either...could be just al-cheapo GMT-modified ETA-2836-2 version.

cheers,
babola

Well, if this turns out to be a fake, the seller can run into troubles. Passion can fill a lawsuit.

Yep, I just noticed that Trusty (and probably others) has the 029/063 reps with the more accurate sized GMT triangle.

This is a rep for certain, unless that picture isn't of the actual watch...

I thought the 029 and 063 had stock eta 2892-3's anyway, and that the gen panerai auto's all had thinner crowns than the manual wind models anyway. Also, as far as I know, the 029 and 063 never had problems (as reps) with the oversized GMT triangles.

!. The 029/063 are no longer available with the 2893, just the modified 2836-2. River had one last NOS 2893 powered GMT PAM for sale a couple of months ago, it sold for ~$700, IIRC.

2. The gen 029/063s had thinner crowns, yes. But, not THAT thin.

3. Look at the picture I posted from DSN's photobucket. The GMT is noticeably bigger on that rep than on the gen.

Gotcha on 2 and 3, but on one, I meant the gen 029 and gen 063 had the 2893 movement....right? Btw, I have the 2893 063 and 029, and my only gripes have been the crowns.

1. Yes, gen 029/063s just used modified ETA2893-2s.

Wanna sell one of those GMTs?

Here's a pic of a gen PAM063 for crown reference:

That gen 063 looks sweet. I have seen some very nice 063 reps modded to the hilt but this one has a look that sets it apart from the reps.

Also the 029 rep in the first frame will be all set once it gets its lello datewheel and a better crown, and stops being sold as gen. But all in all very nice
