Hello everyone. Today I had the chance to take some comparison photos between a out of the box AP AP volcano and a franken. We might speculate the difference in the finish of the gen dial/hand franken with rep dial/hand.
From the photo, we can see the left is the franken AP with gen dial/hand, thicken font DWO and obviously a LWO 283 movement as the date wheel position is move to the left and in align with the gen DWO. The cyclop also seem have a larger magnifier. The out of the box volcano's DWO is to the right and the date wheel font is thiner.
The quality of the gen dial is impeccable, the shine and reflection is just pleasent to stare. And note the recessed bezel screw.
The out of the box rep is also very pleasent to look at, the colour is just a tiny bit off compare to gen dial. the rep version has just a little bit more yellow to gen. But TBH, I'm nitpicking here, none will notice this slight difference in colour from distance and it is impossible to notice with out a gen reference.
The marker is well made and sub dial marker is very clear. One thing that the rep need to improve in the future is the dial ring. Although I cannot capture it by camera, the bevel of the dial ring on the rep is slightly more steep than the gen version. And the font is slightly thicker than gen.
We can see this franken also has the case back shaved, well done on the effort! To me the thickness of the watch really doesn't bother me, whoever claim that they can tell a watch is fake base on their weight (except gold watch) is bluffing and should be re-educated on this forum.
As the case back is shaved, the position of the crown is difference between these two.
For future improvement, the only tell on this franken is probally the pusher's rubber, the gen is more of a shiny black colour, where the rep/franken pusher is black-grey. I have seen the improvement on the pusher, the recent batch's pusher are becoming more of a shiny black colour already.
No whole buckle should be a standard for future rep (I forgot to shoot from the side to capture the no whole part). It is a shame we have rep enthurist making it instead of rep factory.
To summary, rep volcano is pretty much 80% close to gen, not to mention people can wear it confidently during the night as volcano doesn't have lume, so there is no way to tell it is a rep by looking at the lume. The colour, dial ring are sligntly off, but you really have to put a gen next to it to tell. The dial is well made except the DWO position, I cannot ask more as there is no cheap solution for this (LWO 283 is the only way). Recessed bezel and thiner case back and no hole buckle could be easily improved in future model, so here you go. A comparison between out of the box rep volcano and franken volcano.
