Collectibility of now-extinct PAM reps?

So, have the sausage base dial reps turned into the replica equivalent of T dial gen PAMs? Both are out of production and never to be seen again, in all likelihood (except for DSN's dials).

Reps with Swiss E movements are appreciating pretty strongly, as well. Ti cases are gone the way of the dinosaur too, again, excepting DSN's cases which have their own quirks and issues.

What do you think folks? What's on your out-of-production wish list? I would LOVE a PAM192 with the Seagull ST-19 manual chrono movement, personally. I'm not willing to drop the cash they demand now when they do pop up on the sales corners (which is NOT often).

This forum has been slow, let's start some discussion!

It is rather interesting to look at how scarce everything is... anything display back is now something to be held on to... the influx of new people desiring these models are causing them to appreciate...

At what point do you just buy then gen though? Especially in terms of 112, 111, 177, and 176? Is it really better to spend $600-900 on a really nice modded PAM or buy the gen? Especially when a gen can be had for $4200-5000 brand new...

I myself have moved to historic Panerai models as I am going to buy a gen 177 or 176 this year... the hobby has become more fun for me as I have started seeking better parts to make the watches I want to build...

I am sending my 001b to ziggy this week... and i have two DSN PVD casesets on hand that will become an 009b and 004 preA... these projects take a long time but are definitely worth it once you have a finished watch...

I have a self-imposed cap of $1K on ANY rep, and it would have to be something really special to reach that mark. Like a 2893 powered 029 that's modded.

As a general rule, I would think that when a rep starts to approach half the cost of a lightly used gen of the same model, the cons outweigh the pros. Why spend $1500 on a franken-rep if you can get a used gen for ~$3K? (I'm using the Super Avenger as an example, here.)

I keep waffling about selling my 010D with the now extinct DSN v1 dial and using the proceeds to help fund a white Super Avenger purchase, but I'm not sure. Honestly, my two gen PAMs get 99% of the wrist time. Although the 000 that I scored from babola (thanks again, mate!) will be pretty hot once I get my Historic CGs from V's project on RWGjr. I buy something and it gets some wrist time because it's new, then I go right back to the 210 or the Duece.

I'm seriously thinking about having Joe PVD the Duece, as well....

How about a ziggified 2893 powered 063? ;)

You are right Hooligan, I would love to have the 29 with 2893 and ziggy lume job just like the LOS's 63. Those are really hard to find, and with a really steep price.

I have the Ti 192 and wont let it go. In fact, just today I was thinking that a little modding wouldn't hurt: nice AR and lume job. It already has a nice thick crown.

Anyways, I'm in the same thought of not spending much more than a 1/3 of what the gen might cost. My example, a gen SOSF could be obtained for $1200 in really good shape. PAMs on the other hand, are still quite expensivem, even used ones. $3500 for a 111?

The well made 10D with ver. 1 DSN dial is a legend in itself bro, far less those made very well, than 2893 powered 063s...

Not trying to play down your awesome GMT LoS mate...just an off-the hip reaction by a mech pam rep collector LOL!

Hooligan...don't be a hooli...

P.S. If it was a 27 or 28 I'd be singing a different song, though :)

Honestly I probably would pay something ridiculous for an 002, 010, 000 dial from the past. Sometimes I wish I found the rep game earlier than April of this year. I'd have bought all the stuff when it was available.

Or how about the early DSN fiddy with the good dial

As for the rep movements I really don't think those are worth the money they are commanding. I'd rather buy a gen movement for 1-1.2k and have a real franken and guaranteed Swiss. Well for my display back watches atleast not the closed backs.
