Not understanding the subtle differences in date indicator ring seating size (parts# 5098 vs 600) and internal case design, i made the mistake of attempting to fit a clone 3135 movement into a genuine 15053 case meant for a 3035. i've read around after my failed the attempt and saw some threads documenting these minor difference in case dimensions and date indicator seating rings for both movements.
has anyone been able to use a 3135 clone in a 3035 case and had the appropriate stem height and dial seating for it to function appropriately?
what i observed is the date indicator ring on the clone 3135 is preventing the movement from properly fitting the case to allow the dial to fit flush on it's rehaut/dial seat. this not only prevents the movement securing screws from properly being slotted in the case but it also prevents the proper stem height.
my experience is limited to the 15053 case design (assuming it's the same for all 3035 designed cases).
i believe my only reasonable options are:
1.) modify the case to allow 0.5-1mm deeper fitment by sanding down the inner case seat which is preventing the movement from fitting deeper in the case (before the dial seat)-->possibly use a 28mm dial with sandpaper or dremel disk
2.) modify the date indicator ring on the clone 3135-->would rather not attempt to take the movement apart and destroy it
3.) dump $2000k on a 3035 movement
4.) build an ETA setup and clip the dial feet-->would rather not do this but it is a last resort
i do love the vintage date font on the 3035 date wheels and the gen with serifs is really appealing. this would all be for not on the 3135 date wheels i know of. i have seen open 6 and 9 3135 date wheels going for $300 on the 'bay but that's just too much to spend on a date wheel just for the font in my book. i'd rather benefit from a build using the clone 3135 and retaining the dial feet, gen hands, and keep it at a relatively affordable price point. the ETA is a final option.
