Clean GMT budget builds - Mini review

Hi Guys

Since CF released the first v1 Pepsi, hope was alive to finally do a proper build, without going crazy franken.

Ive had around 10 GMTs in my hand, since the v1, and there is a LOT of variation in build quality and tolerance. Basically one technique/gasket etc will work on one watch, but not on the next one, Quite frustrating.

And fun fact: Pepsi inlays will break if you breathe on them Jokes aside, they are very brittle, i broke 3-4 of them so far

We did a build in each color, and im very happy with the end result.

Pepsi: Gen hands, gen crystal, v2 dial, v3 inlay, correct height gasket
Bruce Wayne: CF hands (Second hand lowered), gen crystal, correct height gasket.
Batman: CF hands (Second hand lowered), v2 dial, gen crystal, correct height gasket.

I already have a gen Batman, so the build was mostly to see how close everything was to the gen, and let me tell you, CF did a good job here

These look really good! I added a gen crystal to the stock bruce and it makes such a difference that is hard to capture in pictures.

Do you ever wear the gen now you have all these and is there a reason you went jubilee for the gen? I'm considering getting a gen and torn between the bracelets

I’m selling off the rep Batman, and keeping the gen

My AD offered me the Batman on jubilee back in 2019, and back then you take what you can get at retail

But I do prefer the gmts on jubilee, since I have a lot of other watches on oyster

Hey! Where were you able to find the gasket? Do you know what is the correct height? 2.5? I have the clean Pepsi with Gen Xtal and Gen gasket, but crystal sits to high…

Nice work. For the Bruce Wayne why not consider an ARF insert? I think the grey is a little lighter which is more accurate

They best result we could achieve was with a Clark’s gasket 2.5, and lower the second hands. (Not needed on gen hands)

Never fixed the bezel lip, so had to do that today. Stock is not bad, bud it needs some love to get a gen result

Removing the inlay SLOWLY with a piece of razorblade.

Sanding down the bezel in 3 steps, finishing off with cape cod. (Inlay were also sanded down slightly on the back, to sit correctly in the bezel.)

Secured in place with Hypo Cement

And here is the end result, absolutely perfect in my humble opinion

Since you had the Gen and Rep Bruce side by side do you have pictures? If not do you feel like the clean insert grey is much darker than Gen or just slightly darker?

If you see someone wearing a Bruce. Would you easily tell that it’s a rep because of the dark grey insert?

I have a clean franken Bruce and I am not wearing it in public because I feel like it’s darker to an extent it’s a quick tell. I never had the opportunity to compare it with Gen side by side

Sorry, no side by side. The issue is not the color, the issue is that the gen has a translucent effect, where the rep is just flat gray. It’s hard to explain, but once you see the gen, or HQ pics, it becomes pretty obvious.

No, on the wrist I probably wouldn’t be able to tell Look at my pics above, and see how much it changes color in different light situations.

Here’s the recap: same flaws as the Pepsi (Exept the bezel lip) and the insert is as good as it gets
