Clean Factory Explorer 1 124270 Care Essentials Diary

I recently bought a Clean Factory 124270. Having owned the genuine version for quite some time, I wanted to see if it truly lives up to the "nwbig" reputation as some claim.

I’ve also been learning the art of watchmaking, or at least watch care, for my own purposes. After acquiring some tools and working on Seikos and other models, I went through the process of refining this Explorer to make it even better than it left the factory.

Here’s what I did myself to the brand new Clean Factory Explorer I 124270:
  1. Rehaut Polishing
    • I polished the rehaut without using any substances, as I noticed that products might cause the engraved letters to fade. Instead, I used different types of cloths to get as close as possible to the genuine look.
  2. Gasket Lubrication
    • I applied silicone grease to the caseback gasket and the crown thread.
  3. Waterproof Testing
    • After greasing and tightening the caseback (which was surprisingly loose - factories often leave it you could open it with using your fingers only), I tested the watch for waterproofing. It passed smoothly up to 6 ATM. It might have gone further, but my testing device didn’t have a higher scale.
  4. Crown Thread Cleaning and Greasing
    • I cleaned the crown thread thoroughly and added silicone grease to ensure smoother operation. You’d be surprised how much dirt can accumulate in this area, affecting the smoothness of the crown’s function. Cleaning and greasing are, in my opinion, essential.
  5. Rotor Silencing
    • As the owner of the genuine model, I first listened to the rotor noise in both. Interestingly, the rotor is audibly noticeable in the genuine one, but not by much. For the Clean Factory piece, I disassembled and cleaned the rotor and caseback, then applied a few precise drops of lubricant during reassembly. Now, both rotors sound almost identical, though they are still audible.
  6. Movement Regulation
    • I made minor adjustments to the movement to bring it into COSC range.
  7. Bracelet SPA
    • This step isn’t finished yet. I plan to use more tricks to get a superb look and feel. So far, I’ve cleaned the bracelet in an ultrasonic cleaner, disassembled it completely, and cleaned each component—screws, links, clasp. During reassembly, I applied a small drop of lubricant to each screw to ensure smooth operation.

⬇️ Below, I’ve included some photos to showcase the process and results ⬇️ Some photos show the rep and the gen comparison.

Great write up, one question on the rotor silencing? Did you lube once seated back on the movement from the top or from the underside whilst removed to get better access to the bearings?

Thanks! I applied a small drop from underneath and then another from the top.

The larger crown on the Clean is preventing me from pulling the trigger. Having the gen how would you compare the crowns on both?

Very nice. The only step I question is greasing the crown threads. Cleaning them is an obvious step, but grease attracts dust, so it might not be the best move in the long run.

Dry lube works well, clean the threads with a soft brush first as there may still be some swarf or polishing paste on them making them feel a little gritty, the long left the more damage to the thread.

Then use a really small dribble of muc off dry lube, it wont rot any orings if you do happen to be a little excited when applying.

then work the crown in and then back out, and then use some paper towel ideally something that isnt too fibrery hand towels are pretty good. then just touch it into the thread to soak up any excess if there is any, and jobs a gooden, feel lovely and smooth, if you put too much on you can use an air duster can to blow any excess too.

You can use the dry lube on the bracelet too let it run through the sides of all the links and work it around, then leave, then rinse under nice hot water and some some tooth brush and a little bit of soap then use the air duster to clean and excess of and then clean up, repeat as required, Jubillees benefit from a few passes to make them feel a little more silky and then the natural wearing will kick in. The dry lube attract barely any dirt too, not tried the baby oil technique or other oils they are suppoesed to do the same but baby oil might not last as long as its less likely to cling internally so could leak out over time

What do you think about the crystal in the Rep? I‘ve the Gen, a Friend have the Clean. We both think that the AR Coating in the Gen is so much better, inside-outside-both side coated in the Clean, we don‘t know.
But in the Gen is the dial a deep black, in the Clean always only reflections.
In all other categories it‘s a great Rep i think..
Sorry for my bad english 😑

Why interesting? Its a false idea Gens are 100% Quiet. Ball Bearing rotors are louder than the older model spindle rotors. And mate, its a mechanic part who moves, sure it makes noise, even if it winds in both directions. thats normal for gen also.

I made minor adjustments to the movement to bring it into COSC range.
perfect, i also do this when i get a watch. sadly its not really possible 100%, because
COSC movements are stable in all bearings, the REP movements are usually not stable in position. So they look great on the timegrapher, but not in everyday life, depending on how you hold your hand.

My secret tip for this part i also like to do on new replicas: simply Clean the threat (removed crown) with WAXED DENTAL FLOSS. wax helps really, and does not attract dirt.

I'm a buyer as well if you sell it, and Got20Mate doesn't want it!

Yeah id happily buy this if the price is right!

By the way, you realise, just saying, this is not the M2M sales section. We got a section for that. It is against the rules, you may now, to buy somewhere else in the forum. Its called backdoor selling. The forum statt does hell of a lot for saving yours asses and keeping RWI a safe place, it would be helpful useing TDs here or M2M section.

"Interestingly" not "interesting" is an verb and in English introduces the speaker's perspective is worth noting. It does not mean an astonishment.
It will not keep COSC forever for sure, and nobody expects that from a Chinese toy, but pictures show really great movement condition. And btw the watch is already sold, there where it supposed to be sold at RWI, it didn't last long just a few minutes to find a new owner...
