What’s up guys I’ve got a clean factory bluesy and was curious to know how to care for the gold plating? Do you use cape cods for minor scratches? Or is there a better way…. Also was curious to know the overall durability of the gold plating from clean …… this is my first gold rep and am curious to know about it pic for attention

Don't polish the gold plating, it may become a different hue or ruined. Most polishes like cape cod include that warning on their label. I hear you can use Silvo (Silvio?) polish to remove the cheesy gold hue on vsf gold plated watches. Unfortunately, there is no solution at the moment to get rid of the scratches on your factory gold plating and keep the gold plating intact.

Also regarding durability, some people plating last them 2-3 years. Other people it fades very quickly. There's a lot of factors that affects this such as sun magnitude (wearing your rep outside in Florida heat vs. wearing in Alaska), how often you wear the watch, how much you sweat, and how do you store the watch.

To preserve the "gold" as best you can, try storing it in an airtight location and make sure to wipe off all oils, sweat, lotions, etc that may get on the watch from a days use.

Hope that help!

I bookmarked Silvo but has anyone here actually used it successfully to tone down gold color? I’d hate to go use it and possibly ruin my finish. It would be great if this stuff really is safe for the gold coloring of reps

Here's someone who did it, you can talk to the watch maker who did it, Johnny Depp,

Thing is wouldn't do any direct polishing straight off the bat

Pick a part of the watch that you can't se (inside of the clasp, underside of the bracelet, whatever), and do it

You also might want to consider taping up with thermal tape the areas of steel that you don't want to be affected

Also, silvio/cape cod, wear gloves, the chemical on those is not safe for skin contact

The product also touches your skin when you put on the watch so saying they are not skin safe when polishing isn't a fair representation. Read the MSDS sheets, formulate your own opinion. Wear gloves if you wish or have sensitive skin, but without those <10% petroleum distillates you would have a cloth with some abrasives and vegetable oil only.

Yes agreed but please imagine a situation where you dont wear gloves, get the chemical on you, and then touch your lips/face/mouth and ingest a bit of it. It can happen....

Always better to inform than to not inform....

Good PPE is never a downside.... I've never seen a situation where people regret practicing proper PPE
