Hi Rwi members

Ive been following prices on Chrono24 for a little while and and just wanted some thoughts or comments on the legitimacy or the mechanics of the pricing system.

If you were to buy any watch on the grey market would you turn to it as an authority for negotiating with any seller- private or dealer?

Thanks in advance

I've purchased 3 gens of Chrono24. I'd say it is a fair average on price, country and scarcity in that market does make a difference. I base my assessment on US prices, have been more or less the best comparrison on CR24

It's a great way to get an idea of the average market price, usually use it before contacting the seller and negotiating. A good price for me is 200-400$ between the Chrono24 average on a 5000$ watch when dealing with a seller in my area. I always happily pay that if we can meet at an AD, verify the watch and of course it's worth it as I don't have to wait for it to arrive or pay customs.

I have bought a couple of watches from Chrono24, and each time managed to get them from a reputable dealer at a price less than most private sellers were willing to take. It’s useful to keep an eye on stock, to see if it’s selling at the asking prices, or not.

It's also kind of useful to check the valuation of your own pieces and whether or not you can make a profit by flipping them. Prices seem to fluctuate wildly before Baselworld

Assuming we are talking about 'used' timepieces of fairly expenisve, good quality timepieces.
I always ask, at least, for discount of 10% for rather liquid items and 15-20% for less popular models. Starting from the lowest average pricing for last 1-2 months.
If I do not get it, I pass on it.
In 50% of cases I get desired price.
My rule of thumb for less popular models is to pay max 25-30% of a new MSRP (means 70-75% discount).
For watches I like, not just for sake of nice price.
Final rule is that no watch (again I do not count some crazy expensive PP, AP etc.) is worth more than 10-12k (even in MSRP was 50-60 k).
Due to crisis I would expect that above rules will be even more buyers' friendly.
The best thing is that you do not need more watches, so be relaxed with asking low prices, it works quite often.
And no watch is worth more than 10-12k.
