Ok, there HAS to be a way around it, no? I mean, has everyone given up? There has to be at least a Miyota movement or Seagull chrono with secs at 6, no? Do we all give up on Daytona, Portuguese, etc?

I've read somewhere else that there is another 'fix' for the seconds @6 movement and all it involves is lubing one problamatical gear well...who knows... :?

I believe graphite might be a solution (search RWG for that).

And I seem to remember Ziggy writing somewhere that a modication involving 3 jeweled gears was all it really took, but that the factories hadn't bothered as we're all happily buying the existing crappy 7750s.

There was also another solution proposed that consisted of having a special coating applied to the plate on which the secs @ six gears are located.

I have an Ingy Chrono I sent to Rex on RG to do whatever. He made the seconds hand move much smoother and dramatically reduced the sticking of the hands, but it didn't eliminate it completely.

I've read up on all the forums regarding the faults. Fransisco showed detailed pics here of the gears being worn by rubbing against the plates and reckons , if done early enough, graphite can solve it. Some dealers are pushing a new seconds @6 movement with more jewels at the moment in a bid to boost sales. Those in the know reckon the modified movement has ALWAYS had these anyway and the problem's still exists. The new fix I've read about singles out a single gear between the second hand (@6) and the chrono second hand, that when oiled/adjusted correctly cures the jerky second hand problem or a movement that's completely stopped...

Just to add some more links on graphite lubrication:

As sconehead pointed out, Francisco did a good review of graphite lubrication for a 7750 in the IWC Portuguese Chrono: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=36993. It's well worth checking out, as it has very detailed pics. (Not for nothing rookie of the year!)

Both Francisco and Avitt (see thread mentioned by Boo, which also deals with an IWC Portuguese Chrono) refer to this thread by freddy333, which deals specifically with the sec @ 6 in the Daytona: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=66519.

Hopefully with these you'll have enough for your trusted local watch smith / modder to go on.

Regardless,

Yeah, those are great posts. However, from what I understand, it's still a crapshoot even after the graph mods, and I don't understand why there isn't an alternative solution like a Miyota movement or some sort of Seagulls. Are there really no chronos out there with secs at 6 naturally?

I've got three solutions to owning and using a good, reliable Chrono:
1) Lum-Tec
2) Seiko
3) Gen

I won't buy a 7750. I've read too many threads dealing with broken/dead movements and heartache. I feel sorry for the guys buying these as their first reps.
