Chopard GT XL Alfa Romeo Gen V Rep

Just got my hands on a GT XL Alfa Romeo limited edition
courtesy of a fellow member at RWI , thanks a lot , love it .

just wanted to illustrate in picutres the difference between the Rep and the Gen .
it is indeed down to small details and anyway this is not the kind of watch you can "pull off" easily . the gen having been produced to only 500 units ;even if i could afford the 8000$ price tag it is such an exclusivity that only a restricted amount of chopard customers have probably been offered to buy it ," it is not because you can afford a ferrarri that ferrarri will sell it to you " kind of .

in a nutshell : even if the rep was 1:1 to the gen anyone who knows about watch will immediately doubt it s authenticity >

. silver edition .based on the asian valjoux7750 28800bph , double ar coated sapphire glass . fully working chronograph . 44mm .

1/ full face. first impression .
facecompw.jpg

(the discrepency of the red teint is due to the luminosity of the shot )
as usual ( apparently .. i am a noob ) the crown on the rep is sticking out compared to the gen .
cyclop seems to be to much on the left on the rep compared to the gen .
subdial are a light silver grey on the gen and a lot darker on the rep . there is a black carbon coated extra limited edition (100 units) which has got the subdial in this dark grey colour .
BUT below a pic taken from the chopard website which is the oly gen pic of this model which seems to have a darker grey on the subdial , not sure it is a picture of the real watch or of the computer model chopard created .

2/ details , zooming in .
a/ seconds at 9
secondat9.jpg

the subdial on the rep is etched on the dial instead of being a lot lower and (probably ) a different part all together . the inside dial on the gen is a flat black and the gen has got concentric circles etched in it ...
hand seems to be the right shape , colour and length but the central pin is red on the gen

b / top sub dial ( remember i am a noob .. dont know the exact name of it )
topdial.jpg

dial is brushed on the gen in a light silver finish and polished in a darker grey on the rep . both subdial seem to be raised from the dial in about the same way but the inside dial on the gen is a flat black and the gen has got concentric circles etched in it ...
same problem on the rep with the concentric circle etching ,numbers seems to be placed slightly differently compared to their white markers
gen outer circle has got some concentric circles etched in to it and the rep has got a plain polished look .numbers seems to be placed slightly differently compared to their white markers

c/ bottom sub dial
bottomdial.jpg

same problem on the rep with the concentric circle etching ,numbers seems to be placed slightly differently compared to their white markers
gen outer circle has got some concentric circles etched in to it and the rep has got a plain polished look .

d/ hands
handsa.jpg

hands are the same length and shape i guess ( difference in tint is due to the pic luminosity ), note there is no lume on the rep hands , i am not sure about the gen , the rep has got a very weak lume on the white arrows which i didnot even manage to capture on the pictures . ...

e/ crown
crownu.jpg

crown is a stated before quiet longer on the rep , please notice that the logo background is brushed ion the rep instead of polished .logo itself look fine to me. crown guards correctly positioned according to the pic and similar spacing between the guards and the crown itself, indentation looks good . it scared the hell out of me when i had to pull the crown when i needed to adjust time and date , i noted that wheni screwed it back it took a while to catch and was instead winding the watch , maybe my lack of experience causing this .

f/ push buttons
pushbuttonq.jpg

look the right shape and size , a bit hard to push when you start the chrono , easy to stop and reset , wont be doing that too much thanks to this forum advice .

g/ inside clasp
insideclasp.jpg

sorry didnot have time to find a gen pic of the clasp itself today , i ll do that later on as well as a zoomed pic of the michelin style strap , but i noticed this big difference in design on the inside of the clasp which i had a gen pic for .

h / back plate, mechanism
backso.jpg

i ll leave to the expert to comment on the mechanism as i honestly wont be able to give name aport from this thingy or that bit...
obvious lack of engravings ,
blue screws instead of silver
serie number is correct , serial number is the correct amount of digits .
the "certified chronograph " writing seem to be painted on ( despite the fact that the dealer description says it is engraved ( not the rwi member but the a7750 website ) and it seats a lot higher on the rotor than on the gen .
the details in brushing on the rotor and inner plate are lot less defined on the rep than on the gen
on the alfa romeo logo , the rep is missing the top part of the crown on the snake and there is a little bump on the gen where the eye of the snake should be that doesnot appear on the rep .
8459 serie number should be the same size as the serial number but is smaller on the rep .
limited edition spacing is slightly wrong which result on the writing to be aligned differently to the screws .

sorry i am rushing it , i am off to work in an hour time and need to get ready //..

i/ cyclop
cyclopv.jpg

obviously to much on the right on the rep . difference in magnification

my signature wrist shot and some eye candy of the rep movement !
thanks for reading , hoping this might be usefull to someone !!
cheers

Great review. I've had the hots for this watch for a while now, and this just put it on top of my "Watches I NEED to buy" list. Thanks mate.
