Chipped Dial Paint

Hey All,

Just wanna get some comments on a situation that I face. I just noticed that on the Gen Refinished Dial of my Tudor 7016 there seems to be a small chip in the base paint at the edge around the 8:30 position.

It doesn't bother me too much as I believe age gives the watch character - but I'm worried that it might lead to bigger issues like eventual flaking of the entire base black colour.

Does anyone have any experience with chipped dial paint? How likely it is that it can cause or is the sign of bigger issues?

Let me know,
B

@hurk Aw shucks. Yea it sucks doesn't it. Nah, I won't touch it, and in general I'm superrrr careful. I guess the good thing about it being refinished is that... I can get it redone again and it won't be like I destroyed a Gen straight up. lol

@yodog Thanks for chiming in, that's great assurance. No, the movement and dial sit really well with no free play - not that I can see anyway. :)

Are their things I could maybe do to make it safer though? I read somewhere that people stop dial chipping by applying lacquer, varnish or some other finishing material to the edge to make sure it doesn't come away from the dial plate. Ever heard of such a thing?

I wouldn't apply lacquer or varnish, you will draw attention to the chip far more

Thanks for the input - is there not a matte version that can be applied thinly? Just wondering anyway, not about to take it apart as the dial and movement are very secure in the case at the moment.
