This snowstorm has me surfing, and thinking.

In the past month I've picked up the Noobmariner, and one of the HUGE Cartier 2Tones.

Next, I want a cheap, entry level Panerai for my first one... I like the logo on the dial, leather straps, and the little subidal at 9. Suggestions on which one?

why not pay a little bit more for Ruby's PAM036. It has a Swiss movement, Ti case, no short pin problem, excellent AR. Satisfaction guaranteed too.

The difference is actually quite a lot (almost double)... your choice then. The original 005 logo is using the manual wound movement, not automatic... alternatively try River's entry level 111h. It's cheap at under 120USD.

Can someone explain exactly what the "short pin problem" is? I've seen this a lot (is this the same as the cannon pin?)

Personally, I have an aversion to Ti cases - I like the weight of steel. But if it's a better deal, I'll certainly consider it.

I don't mind manual wind watches, BTW. It's a nervous habit in meetings anyway.

hi,

if the emphasis is on budget then :

And buy a decent strap for it e.g.

The pin issue is barely noticeable.

The PAM111H-u-like is a classic "first buy" having a nice combination of features.

Short pin problem refers to the cannon pin (holds the hour and minute hand).
On reps, this pin is too short as it should be almost flush with the top hand.
The cannon pin issue is a dead give away for a panerai rep.

Logo on the dial and subdial at 9 = PAM005 (SS case) or PAM195 (PVD case).

Search our dealers here for the lowest price, good places to start for low prices (in my experience) are River, Ruby, Joshua or Andrew.

I'm a bit biased, but if money was no object, I'd buy Davidsen's 005 once he updates his dial fonts.
