Uh, probably because he wants to install a more accurate crown. Why all the rolleyes?

As far as tools go, you'll need a case back remover of some sort (a bunch of balled-up duct tape will work) and a small screwdriver. It's not that hard, but it's EASY to unscrew the set-screw too far and then it's a pain to get the winding stem back in. My advice would be to send it off to have someone do it for you. Plus, if you're installing a thicker crown, you might need to grind down the CG lever a bit in order for it to fit properly. That's something best left to someone with experience, IMO.

the reason?
the thin crown is kind of bugging me!
just wondering if the hassle was worth it...
$45 for a DSN ti crown and then installation cost...
will the difference make up for the hundred bucks?

thanks!
it's very nice of you...
if the offer is still valid when I receive the parts, I'll try to contact you...
are there adjustments to be done when changing a crown for another or it's like changing a lightbulb?
do you keep good Ti crowns in stock?

Perhaps because I'm amused about how "anal" some of us get over @ .1mm of crown thickness..???...That's a triple rolleye at least IMNSFHO!!...

Yeah...just like a lightbulb,,,LOL
Except for the part where you need to adjust the stem length(maybe), and grind down the lever(maybe)...And the "devil is ALWAYS in the details" (read maybe here!!)
The problem with messing with crown thickness here is that the crown on a Panny is held in a precise position by the crown guard, thereby complicating the crap out of an otherwise simple horological exercise...Proceed at your own risk....And if you mess it up....I'll give you @ $50.00 for the pieces!!... :D :D :D

Wow, I didn't know you got so spun-up over what other people do to their watches. BTW, the crown that is currently on that watch is way more than .1mm too thin. :p

I'm not even sligthtly "spun up" but more concerned about a rep lover getting in over his head trying to fix "what ain't broke", and screwing up a decent rep trying to strive for a level of "perfection" that is unreasonable...The crown's mat be a tiny bit skimpy, but a watch in parts a baggie is wayyyyy worse !!
There are a dozen ways a newbie can screw this up....Why encourage it...???

For some people in this hobby the little things just drive them crazy. I am not that anal, but I fully understand it. I personally have no qualms about opening up my watches and doing everything that does not require the movement to be disassembled. I intend to learn that aspect of this hobby also. For some wearing them and looking at them is enough, for some the fun is in tinkering. For others the search for the elusive perfect rep is the goal. I say encourage away. What is the worst that happens, he ends up with a donor watch that he can hone other skills on. No loss.

Obviously you missed when I posted this: "My advice would be to send it off to have someone do it for you. Plus, if you're installing a thicker crown, you might need to grind down the CG lever a bit in order for it to fit properly. That's something best left to someone with experience, IMO."

Doesn't sound like I'm encouraging him to do it himself to me....

thanks for the input everyone!
for starters, the crown on my watch is about 1.5MM thick, so a 1.9MM would be 25% thicker...
The CG lever is not that tight as it is now, so I either grind my CG or install a thicker crown.
That was the dilemma here!

I still havent found a replacement crown but if I do I will send it off to a good and trustworthy watchman I know...

DSN'a Ti crowns seem to be pretty good. A little bit better than his SS one, IMO. He should be able to source one for you with no problems. If not, contact vaccum, Ziggy or Flavor Flav. I'm sure one of them has a spare Ti crown knocking about....

Here is the result of changing the DSN Crown on stock head. The right one is stock crown. DSN is on the left. Changing the crown on stem is not hard. But install the tube to seat the crown is more difficult. As far as I have experience on my own and discuss with Babola, there is not found yet that the DSN tube will be common with stock case. You need to mod it. See more detial of this mod in replica mod forum. I have post it few months ago.
