Hi Guys,

I wonder what you guys, are real watch lovers, think about the Chanel J12 42 mm?

I've always like the watch and you can buy the authentic watch with nice discount on different sites.

For 2500 euro you have a good condition J12.

The movement is an ETA movement.

Full ceramic.

I wonder if this is worth buying. I would otherwise put it into a Franken Rolex but a full gen is also always nice.

Thanks for the feedback.

Personally I am not a fan. It's not something I would purchase with any plans of it going up in value, nor is it anything I personally would wear. To each their own but I would not consider it a wise purchase unless you are completely enthralled with the design. Consider this, it's being listed for roughly half of MSRP for a new one, So that means after eBay fees the seller is going to get less than that.

I agree indeed. For me it was a bit the watch that brought me the attention some 15 years to 20 years ago to the watch world. I loved how the watch looked but always was out of reach. Now learning more about watches and movements i must confirm indeed that it's 1) over priced for new retail price 2) the engineering is quite basic and not comparable to watch brands 3) prices never seem to go up only down.

Anyone's other input will always help. Much appreciated

It's not an horology marvel as it's more on the jewelry side of watches. Like Cartier. And that doesn't mean they are uninteresting. Like Cartier (that has a bigger legacy in watch though) you have a strong name behind, and i think the J12 was an instant classic. The hype is a bit low ATM on this model but i'd bet it will get better later, so if you like the model and have the money, go for it, they're some good deal around.

(and i'm not personally a big fan of this model)

Indeed, the J12 is on the jewelry side but the recent 12.1 caliber makes the pieces a bit more interesting regarding that aspect. I've read somewhere that its actually Kenissi (Tudor calibers manufacture) that makes it. Otherwise, their look is indeed unparalleled, its a classic. Price-wise, I dont know what Chanel is looking for but my wife bought a 5k€ Phantom 38mm three years ago and now its up 65% (retail price), Im curious to know if it really works out for them at this level.
As for the watch, it a nice and well-made piece, if you are in those sort of watches.
