Hi,

I need some knowledge!

1) Do all the different CG's fit all the different Pam models.

2) Same question with Crowns. Do all crowns fit all models.

The reason I ask....aside from not knowing the answer....is that I would like to change all my crowns to the famous "Palp" crowns. Along the cg's/

3) last question...is there a tutorial on how to dissemble(and then assemble)a Panerai? I would like to start doing my own mods. I think I want to start with removing....AR.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks in advise

Disassembling is very easy - unscrew CG, unscrew the caseback, pull out the crown and remove movement.
Assembling - same steps in opposite direction.

#2 is a No. Some pams are automatic, and some are hand-wind - thus their stems/crowns are different. Some are spring loaded stem/crown assemblies, some are two piece.

Short ans,

Crowns, yes, as long as u fit a manual crown with a manual mvmt & auto crown with auto mvmt.. If it doesn't fit, usually its the stem thats too long or too short..

As for CGs, most may be interchangeable, but there're chances it won't, as I've found out..

CG screws r pretty generic..

Is there a video tutorial that we can watch and learn from?

I would like to attempt changing a crown and to remove AR.

Seriously!!!

How easy is it to get the latest 111 noob CG's?

Not easy.
Noob dont sell parts so You have to buy a complete 111N and those are since long sold out with a long waiting list on comming stock.

Ok but would a typical noob cg, which I hear is the better over the H, generally fit a H case?

It will fit but might not be flush on the case, you might need to work it a bit to fit right.

A CG is going to run you about $50 or so.

You're better off looking for a noob case set in the forums if you really want the noob CG then swap your movement, dial etc into the new case.

To be honest if you are really set on it, it would be cheaper and easier to sell your Hfac and buy a noob unless you like to tinker with your watches.

Thanks for the help. I have the 390 so would prefer to upgrade just the CG at most. But I could see myself getting pissed off if it wasn't flush and I'm not really skilled/motivated enough to try file it down till it's flush. Maybe best to just try get a cheap one off the used parts classifieds when it comes up.

If you can wait a couple days until I have the time this weekend, I can put my Noob 112M CG on my 390 and see how it fits and post pics.
At least it will give you an idea.

I would suggest that you do a little more..>>>

Reading in the various forums before you start dismantling your Pams...There are a VAST number of variables in CG types and sizes, and you'd be surprised how much they look alike until you try switching them around....There are a lot of good tutorials about a broad range of watchmaking projects available on the boards...Read them, and then get some decent tools before you start your journey into the "great horological unknown"..:maty:

As stated CGs have many variables. Gen CGs aren't all the same. Some are shaped different. Reps are machined different even within the same model type.
Why do you want to "upgrade" your CG? Is it not flush? Is the lever loose? Or not pushing the crown in correctly? Many of those types of issues can be fixed instead of upgrading. Before spending the cash you may want to tell us what is wrong with the one you have and figure out a game plan. Its a bummer buying parts then finding out it was a waste.

My issues are usually about the CG not being flush against the case.

I would like to try and file it down and shape it, but I am afraid of damaging the CG or filing off too much!

How does one file and shape a CG? Is it done by hand or a Dremel?

I also asked about the Palp crowns because they seem to be thicker.

Thanks for all the great advise guys!
