CG pin removal

So I was wanting to do the hot glue mod for my PAM and shave the pin to give it a more gen like look since I have a T crown coming. However I do not have a pin removal tool. Have you all been able to use anything around the house to get this thing out? Or anything you can locally go buy?

Also you push from the back, correct? I have tried a few things pushing from the back and it just doesnt want to budge. How much force should it take, it just feels like I'm going to break something...

Yes, it comes out from the back. The pin has a short morse taper that keeps in in place (at least mine did).

I chose to use a clockmakers tapered reamer (designed to make oval holes round again) to cut a single tapered hole. I then cleaned up the CG arm with a little more material removal and fitted a tapered clockmakers pin.

If it's a tight fit then make sure that the CG is held on a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it. This will protect the CG from damage.

If too tight, warm up the CG assembly over a gas stove flame (or similar) for a few seconds, this worked on all my Ti CGs as Ti as a material is more brittle then steel and the pin will hold much tighter in the hole at the bottom of a CG. It also worked on some of my S/S CG pins, originaly thought they were stuck but after "warming" them up over the flame for a vee bit, they came out easily...they were held by locktite some Pam rep factories use to cheat...on both CG pin and crown stem end.

Oh, and ...DO NOT do the hot glue trick, it's crap, will never hold for longer time and use, and will loosen up with use making the CG lever look messy indside CG and around the CG pin.

I agree, better to use Loctite than hot glue probably.
I did this on a 112 and a 243, and it worked perfectly and levers still hold tight after 2 years for one, and 1 year for the other.

Thanks for the help guys. This thing just wont seem to budge no matter how hard press and the lever is out. I tried putting it over a flame for about 10 sec too and it didnt help :(

Any other ideas?

PIX - what is the Locktite trick?

I have read about the "Hot Glue" trick and was about to try it on one of my PAM's

Just put a drop of Loctite in the hole before inserting the pin.

It will hold tight, but not tight enough to prevent the lever from openning. Then just clean the surplus of Loctite with your nail + some Capecod (if it's a polished crownguard) or steel wool (if it's a brushed CG)

Capecod on ebay and Loctite, well, everywhere.

Have you had the watch from new?
It could be that someone in the past has decided to use superglue on the pin to stop it from coming loose. I've lost count of the number of Radiomir lug screws I've found superglued in place.
To avoid damage to the pin or the hole, try to borrow the kind of tool used for pressing out bracelet pins.
Applying heat usually works but I find it better to use something like a soldering iron. Apply the heat directly to the crownguard rather than the pin, then the crownguard will expand slightly faster than the pin, helping to loosen the fit.

Not sure where you are based, but I'm sure that if it's truly stuck in, a member local to you with access to the right tools will be glad to help out, rather than you risk damaging it permanently.

Got it. Thanks for all the help you guys! Went out to a hardware store and found something. Worked Like a charm. I have my pin shaved and now I need to go by the Loctite (SP?) and then I should be good from there.

On the 111h should the pin be polished like the CG or brushed. Because after I filed it down it is brushed. And didnt know how it should be...
