I was really behind getting the best available Papers and Certs for my Rep watches without any intention to resell a Franken watch as Authentic Luxury Watch. It was solely to satisfy my ego and fool myself into believing something that is simply false.
In the meantime, I do not need rep papers, even for my "Gen but Case" builds, which really only differ by nuances from authentic watches from well-known manufacturers:
a) a rep or build, no matter how good the watch is in the end, is always a non-authentic watch and will under no circumstances be revised by the manufacturer
b) well imitated papers also cost money, which does not increase the value of a replica
c) for presentation in a showcase, I agree with the writers above me, it is enough to have a replica or a used authentic box.
With authentic watches, on the other hand, I would always want to have the corresponding papers. This can also be a proof from the RSC, for example, that the watch was serviced there. With such service cards, the individual number is always noted and also the authenticity was checked as well as the fact whether the watch was not reported as stolen to the manufacturer.
In the meantime I'm a proud owner of a Gen Submariner in unpolished condition in a full set (incl. original owners receipt from the AD).
